Approach to Universal Design

The principles of universal design help us create products and services that can be used by people of diverse abilities. A product or website should be easy to use and understand, even if a person has little knowledge or experience. Universal design also takes into account physical diversity, such as differences in people's visual acuity, height, hand size, and right- or left-handedness. Error-tolerant features help minimize unintended results. Digital cameras, for example, are designed to turn off automatically to save battery power.

  • Focus and brightness are optimized to clearly show individual faces, which are identified by face detection technology. This is part of our Image Intelligence™ digital image processing technology.
  • A single press of the shutter gives you two photos: one with flash and one without. This lets you easily compare the effects of different lighting and choose the one you prefer.
  • The large LCD can display 100 thumbnail photos at a time, allowing easy search for photos.
  • Without using cables, photos can be sent to a cellphone, digital camera, LCD TV or other device that supports infrared communication.

Natural Photo system

We developed the Natural Photo system to capture the natural ambience of scenes without using flash. The system comprises our Natura ISO 1600 film and our Natura 35mm compact camera. The camera has an F1.9 lens and an exposure program that optimizes performance in dim light. The camera's design is simple and operation is intuitive.

Video communication system for sign language

This lets hearing- and speech-impaired people communicate by phone using sign language. The system includes a sign-language interpretation service, a video camera, and a broadband modem which is connected to a TV set and telephone line.
