Fujifilm to further strengthen its business structure for U.S. Medical Informatics Business

Formalizes Integration of two U.S. subsidiaries into its U.S. medical sales subsidiary

June 28, 2010

FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc. (President: Naohiro Fujitani), the U.S. sales subsidiary of FUJIFILM Corporation (President and CEO: Shigetaka Komori, hereinafter Fujifilm), will absorb the Fujifilm Group's 100% subsidiaries Problem Solving Concepts Inc. (Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana; hereinafter “ProSolv”) and Empiric Systems, LCC (Headquartered in Morrisville, North Carolina; hereinafter “Empiric”) as of August 2, 2010. This integration strengthens the capacity for product development and further business expansion, while also streamlining and consolidating business functions to boost business efficiencies.

With its advanced software technologies, ProSolv developed and marketed a proprietary Cardiology PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), a medical imaging information system for the circulatory system primarily used to facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases. The ProSolv Cardiology PACS (now marketed as Synapse® cardiovascular) is highly regarded for its customizable and comprehensive reporting solutions, along with other advanced functions necessary for diagnosis of heart disease and other circulatory disorders, including dynamic image displays, electrocardiogram synchronization and quantitative analysis capabilities. The system has been introduced at approximately 460 sites in the U.S. and other parts of the world.

Empiric developed and marketed a RIS*1 (Radiology Information System) product. The RIS is a web-based application similarly designed to Fujifilm's Synapse® PACS*2, which has been introduced at over 3,000 sites worldwide. All the application software is installed on the server, eliminating the need for software installation on clients on the same network. The product has earned high user praise for its ease of introduction / upgrading, high expandability, and compatibility with other web-based systems. Now marketed as Synapse® RIS, the system has been introduced at approximately 250 sites in the U.S. and other parts of the world.

Fujifilm acquired ProSolv and Empiric through its U.S. sales subsidiary FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc. in December 2006 and November 2008 respectively, and has since integrated the products. ProSolv's Cardiology PACS (now Synapse® cardiovascular) has been fully integrated with the company's Synapse® PACS, further expanding the product's ability to handle a wider variety of medical diagnostic images. Empiric's RIS (now Synapse® RIS) is also integrated with Synapse® PACS, providing radiology departments with enhanced workflow and greater efficiencies. Fujifilm's unique ability to provide these integrations and deliver healthcare facilities with one system has been significantly contributing to the sales of Synapse. The integration of the two companies into FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc. will enable Fujifilm to further develop its medical informatics business.

Based on its Corporate Philosophy of “using leading-edge, proprietary technologies to help enhance the quality of life of people,” Fujifilm will continue to provide optimum solutions that meet wide-ranging diagnostic imaging needs of various institutions to contribute to improving quality and efficiency of medical care and promoting healthier lives throughout the world.
