Fujifilm Launches FUJINON CF-ZA-1S Series Lens, Ultra High Resolution Lenses for Machine Vision Cameras

FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Kenji Sukeno) will, in February 2019, launch “FUJINON CF-ZA-1S series” (“CF-ZA-1S”), a series of the ultrahigh resolution lenses designed for the machine vision cameras used for product inspection and measurement on production lines. The lenses are compatible with large camera sensors with a high pixel count of 1.1-inch・2.5µm pixel pitch***(equivalent to 23 megapixels).

In production lines, it is common practice to use machine vision system to confirm images of products so as to conduct automatic product inspection and measurement. In years to come, the demand for machine vision systems is expected to grow due to the increasing automation of production lines and further reductions in the number of human operators. Currently, the demand for high precision inspection and measurement systems is growing not only in the electronic components and automotive components fields but also in the field of larger-sized products such as organic EL displays and LCD displays. As the sensors used for machine vision cameras become increasingly large and incorporate an ever higher pixel count, lenses, which are the first “gateway” for image information, now also require higher levels of performance.

The CF-ZA-1S series, soon set for launch, is a series of ultrahigh resolution lenses designed for use with machine vision cameras and compatible with large camera sensors with a high pixel count of 1.1-inch・2.5µm pixel pitch***(equivalent to 23 megapixels). The lenses incorporate Fujifilm's proprietary 4D high resolution*4 technology, providing superior image clarity. In addition, when the aperture is set to F4, the setting commonly chosen by users, the relative illumination ratio* is maintained at over 90%**, ensuring that the lens produces images that operate in all areas from the center through to the periphery. This eliminates the need for light intensity compensation, which may cause noise into the image, facilitating efficient high-precision product inspections. Furthermore, the lenses are designed to be compact, with a world-smallest*5 external diameter of just 39mm*6, and the lenses' high-quality anti-shock and vibration performance, which maintains variations of the optical axis*7 equal to or below 10µm*8 makes the lenses highly suitable for installation in a diverse range of manufacturing environments.

The CF-ZA-1S is suitable not only for the inspection and measurement of electronic components but also for large-sized products such as organic EL displays and LCD displays. The series provides a lineup of six different lens models*9 with different focal lengths, allowing customers to choose the lens most appropriate for their desired application.

In addition to the CF-ZA-1S series, Fujifilm will also, from January 2019, launch the “FUJINON HF-HA-1S series” (“HF-HA-1S”). This series is an update of the “FUJINON HF-HA-1B series”, already in use in a wide range of manufacturing environments, which are compatible with sensors up to a maximum size of 2/3-inch・6.2µm pixel pitch (maximum size equivalent to 1.5 megapixels), and are characterized by compact lens bodies with external diameters of 29.5mm. The update adds additional anti-shock and vibration performance to the existing series.

Fujifilm currently provides a wide range of lenses that fit with the times of high-quality digital imaging including lenses for television and surveillance cameras. These products harness the optical technology acquired by Fujifilm over many years as well as Fujifilm's precision processing and assembly know-how. With a broad portfolio of 45 different lens models with high performance, high image quality and high lens quality, Fujifilm is committed to meeting customers' diverse needs in the machine vision field, where sustained demand growth is expected.

  • * This refers to the ratio of the light intensity at the periphery of the image as compared to the center of the image.
  • ** When the aperture is in the F4 setting, which is commonly chosen by users.
  • *** This is an index of the sensitivity of the image sensor. The unit of µm refers to the distance between the respective centers of adjacent pixels. The shorter the distance, the higher the pixel density and the higher the resolution. In the case of a 1.1-inch sensor, a pixel pitch of 2.5µm corresponds to a 23 megapixel camera.
  • *4 This is the name given to the unique high-resolution achieved by FUJINON lenses through a mechanism for maintaining a constant high resolution from the center of the image to the periphery (2D) and mitigating resolution degradation as the shooting distance and aperture setting change (2D).
  • *5 Applies to lenses for use in machine vision camera compatible with 1.1-inch high sensitivity image sensors with a pixel pitch below 3.0µm.

[ FUJINON CF-ZA-1S series ]
(1) Ultrahigh-resolution models compatible with large sensors with high pixel count of 1.1-inch・2.5µm pixel pitch (equivalent to 23 megapixels)

  • These lenses are for use with ultrahigh resolution machine vision cameras and are compatible with large sensors with high pixel count of 1.1-inch・2.5µm pixel pitch (equivalent to 23 megapixels). Fujifilm's unique 4D High Resolution technology mitigates resolution degradation that results from changes in shooting distance and aperture setting.
  • These lenses are ideal for the inspection and measurement not only of electronic components but also larger products such as EL displays and LCD displays.

(2) Efficient high-precision inspection capability at relative illumination ratio of 90% and higher

  • At the F4 aperture setting, which is frequently selected by users, the lenses achieve bright imagery from the center of the image to the periphery. This eliminates the need for light intensity compensation, which may cause noise into the image, facilitating efficient high-precision product inspections.
  • By restricting the Chief Ray Angle(CRA)*10 to 5% or lower, the lenses maintain a high peripheral light ratios even when attached to machine vision cameras equipped with CMOS sensors, which have a comparatively small light-receiving area.
  • *10 This is the angle at which the principal light strikes the sensor. The closer the angle is to 0°, the closer the light entering the lens is to being perpendicular to the surface of the sensor. Smaller angles help prevent a reduction in relative illumination ratio.

(3) Compact, anti-shock and vibration design makes the lenses suitable for a diverse range of manufacturing environments

  • The lenses have the world's smallest external diameter of just 39mm. This contributes to the overall compactness of the machine vision system.
  • Fujifilm's unique mechanisms enable anti-shock and vibration showing superior performance that achieves changes in the optical axis of just 10µm or below. This performance makes lenses suitable for use in a range of manufacturing environments.

(4) Excellent convenience and reliability

  • The lens uses a unique mechanism that does not change the overall length of the lens even during focusing. Lenses can be accessed easily to achieve the desired shooting distance.
  • The lens barrel has three respective fixation holes for the iris and focus which can be selected depending on the installation conditions.
  • The thumbscrews for the iris and focus have a special “anti-separation structure“ which ensures that even in environments with strong vibrations, users can rest assured that the screws will not drop out. The small screws without this design included in the lens package can be used as an alternative to provide greater freedom in system installation and design as the screws do not extend beyond the external diameter of the lens.

  • The lenses are assembled and manufactured under strictly controlled conditions to produce consistent high product quality. Even after the product is shipped, Fujifilm controls the product via the attached serial number in order to maintain excellent reliability.

[ FUJINON HF-HA-1S series ]
(1) Guaranteed high-quality optical performance when used with cameras with sensors up to a maximum size of 2/3-inch・6.2µm pixel pitch (equivalent to a maximum of 1.5 megapixels)*11.

  • The lenses use an optical design compatible with a maximum size of 2/3-inch・6.2µm pixel pitch (equivalent to a maximum of 1.5 megapixels).
    In addition, all of the eight new models set to be added to the lineup have a brightness of F2.8 or lower, capturing bright images even in environments with low light intensity.
  • *11 The following seven model are compatible with 2/3-inch・6.2µm pixel pitch (equivalent to 1.5 megapixels): HF9HA-1S, HF12.5HA-1S, HF16HA-1S, HF25HA-1S, HF35HA-1S, HF50HA-1S, HF75HA-1S. Only DF6HA-1S is compatible with 1/2-inch・6.2µm pixel pitch (equivalent to 0.8 megapixels).

(2) Compact, vibration-mitigation shockproof design

  • Fujifilm's unique mechanisms enable anti-shock and vibration showing superior performance that achieves changes in the optical axis of just 10µm or below.

(3) Compact external diameter of just 29.5mm

  • As the lens has a smallest external diameter of just 29.5mm, it can be easily installed even in compact inspection devices with limited internal space.

(4) Efficient installation

  • The product is designed with ease of installation in mind. The lens barrel has three respective fixation holes for the iris and focus that can be selected depending on the installation conditions.
