The Fujifilm Group has maintained the concept of “Caring for and preserving the environment are the basis for corporate activities” since its foundation. Under the Fujifilm Group Charter for Good Corporate Behavior, as a “good corporate citizen”, the Group works to understand and respect the culture and practices of the community and proactively engages in activities that contribute to the communities, in which it is based, including promoting their development. Based on this concept, the Group engages in environmental conservation activities, environmental education for future generations, community beautification programs, and inter-community exchange on a continuing basis while also contributing to these communities through its business activities and the products it offers.
At present, to attain its objectives under the Medium-Term Management Plan “VISION75”, the Group is engaged in structural reforms and is structuring systems for major R&D activities and production. FUJIFILM Kyushu Co., Ltd., which manufactures materials for flat panel displays to meet the expanding demand for LCDs, has decided to move forward with the construction of its second and third production facilities. In addition, in Kaisei-town, Kanagawa Prefecture, we have opened the FUJIFILM Advanced R&D Institute, which will aim for specific results that will contribute to the society of the future. All of these projects just mentioned have been and are being carried out with the understanding and cooperation of local communities where these facilities are located. Going forward, the Group will continue to maintain interactive communication with these communities and give full consideration to environmental conservation while striving to revitalize these regional areas and contribute to the creation of affluent communities.
Moreover, the Group is drawing on the special features of its business activities and its experience in many areas to offer support to society. These activities include educational programs for the next generations based on the Group's photographic technology and related experience. Going beyond these activities, the Group is also taking aggressive initiatives to increase interest in volunteer programs among employees, which is one of today's significant issues.
As society becomes more diverse and social changes increasingly intense, we are continuing to look for ways we can offer something to society, for people's livelihood, and people in general.
