FinePix F450 Firmware (camera control software) Update Ver.2.10

•Detail of the update
This Firmware (Ver.2.10) update incorporates the following issues:
- LCD monitor automatically increases gain in dark scenes for easier composition.
•Precaution
1)If firmware upgrading fails, the camera may no longer operate correctly in some cases.
Carefully read the notes provided here.

2)Always use the AC adapter when upgrading the firmware. Never turn the camera off or attempt to use any of the camera controls while the firmware is being overwritten.

3)Firmware upgrading takes approximately 2 minutes.

4)Once the firmware has been upgraded, the previous version cannot be restored.
1.Preparation
a.Prepare the target digital camera.

b.Prepare the xD-Picture card.
The firmware upgrading procedure requires a formatted xD-Picture card. Refer to the User's Manual (p.60-62) for information on using "FORMAT" in the SET-UP menu to format an xD-Picture card.
Note that formatting the xD-Picture card will erase all data on the card, including protected files. Always copy any important files that you do not want to lose to your PC beforehand.

c.Prepare the power supply.
Have the AC adapter (AC-5VW) bundled with your camera ready.

d.Prepare the USB cable.
Have the USB cable bundled with your camera ready.

2.Firmware version checking procedure
Insert a blank formatted xD-Picture card in the camera. Turn on your FinePix F450 while holding down the [DISP/BACK] button. The number will displayed "CURRENT" showing the camera's current firmware version.

After checking the firmware version, press the [DISP/BACK] button and then turn the camera off.


3.Downloading the firmware upgrade
Read the firmware upgrade user license agreement and agree to the terms before downloading the upgrade.

4. Firmware upgrading procedure
a. Download the firmware upgrade.

You can download a compressed copy of the firmware upgrade using the "Downloading the firmware upgrade" link on this page.
The following files are downloaded:

  Windows Macintosh
File name FinePix F450.EXE FinePix F450.sit
File size 687,479 bytes 578,829 bytes

Windows users should double-click "FinePixF450.EXE" to automatically decompress the file and create the "FPUPDATE.DAT" file in the same folder as "FinePix F450.EXE".
Macintosh users should decompress "FinePix F450.sit" using file decompression software (e.g. Aladdin Stuffit Expander).

If the file size does not match the figures given above, download the firmware upgrade file again.

b.Copy the firmware upgrade onto the xD-Picture card.
Copy the downloaded "FPUPDATE.DAT" firmware file to the xD-Picture card prepared in step [1] above.
* The software provided on the CD-ROM bundled with the camera must be installed on the PC.
* Connect the camera to the PC without using the cradle.
Refer to the User's Manual (p.77) for details.

•Windows PC users
1. Connect the camera to the PC in DSC mode. (Do not use the cradle.)
 *Refer to the User's Manual (p.76-77) for more information on connecting the camera in DSC mode.
2. Open the "My Computer" window.
 The camera appears in My Computer as a "Removable disk" or "FinePix" icon.
 * This varies depending on the operating system and other software used.
3. Double-click the "Removable disk" or "FinePix" icon in My Computer to open the disk window.
4. Drag and drop the downloaded "FPUPDATE.DAT" firmware file into the window opened in step 3.
5. Check that "FPUPDATE.DAT" has been copied to "Removable disk" or "FinePix".
6. Cancel the DSC connection and disconnect the camera from the PC.

This completes the copying of the firmware upgrade to the xD-Picture card.

•Macintosh users
1. Connect the camera to your Macintosh in DSC mode. (Do not use the cradle.)
*Refer to the User's Manual (p.76-77) for more information on connecting the camera in DSC mode.
2. The camera appears in the Finder as an "Untitled" or "Unlabeled" icon.
* This varies depending on the operating system and other software used.
3. Double-click the "Untitled" or "Unlabeled" icon in the Finder to open the disk window.
4. Drag and drop the downloaded "FPUPDATE.DAT" firmware file into the window opened in step 3.
5. Check that "FPUPDATE.DAT" has been copied to "Untitled" or "Unlabeled".
6. Cancel the DSC connection and disconnect the camera from the PC.

This completes the copying of the firmware upgrade to the xD-Picture card.


c. Upgrade the firmware using the xD-Picture card.
Load the xD-Picture card containing the copied firmware upgrade into the camera.
(If you copied the firmware upgrade using the camera and the xD-Picture card is already in the camera, proceed to step [4-d].)


d. Turn the camera on.
Turn the camera on while holding down the [DISP/BACK] button.
*This screen appears regardless of whether the AC adapter is already connected.
When the screen shown above appears, press the [OK] button.

Use [left button] to select "OK". Press the [OK] button.  
Press the [OK] button. The firmware is then upgraded.


Firmware upgrading takes about 2 minutes.
When the screen shown above appears, the firmware upgrade has been successfully completed.
e.Check the upgraded firmware.
Display the firmware version and confirm that "VER. 2.00" is displayed.
The xD-Picture card used for the firmware upgrade should be reformatted before you use it for taking pictures again.
