•Details
of the update
The firmware (Ver.2.16
to Ver.2.18 ) update incorporates the following issues.
1)
Updates for the setting of the sharpness for JPEG images on the PC control mode.
The firmware (Ver.2.12
to Ver.2.16 ) update incorporates the following issues.
1)
Updates for compatibility of Nikon flash units.
2) Updates for custom white balance function and exposure control function on
the PC control mode.
The firmware (Ver.1.00
to Ver.2.12 ) update incorporates the following issues.
1)Adds
PC control function (needed to update Hyper-Utility Software HS-V2 Ver.3.1)
2)Updates AUTO ROTATE function
3)Updates the function for AF-S Nikon and AF-VR Nikon lens.
(Can be functioned even power switch is on when the lens is attached)
4) Updates the compatibility for high capacity of storage media. |
•Precaution
1)If
firmware upgrading fails, the camera may no longer operate correctly in some
cases. Carefully read the notes provided here.
2)Always use the AC adapter when upgrading the firmware. Never turn the camera
off or attempt to use any of the camera controls while the firmware is being
overwritten.
3)Firmware upgrading takes approximately 2 minutes.
4)Once the firmware has been upgraded, the previous current cannot be restored. |
1.Preparation
a.Prepare the target digital camera.
FinePix
S3 Pro
b.Prepare
the media.
The
firmware upgrading procedure requires a formatted media. Refer to the FinePix
S3Pro Owner's Manual (p.106) for information on using "FORMAT" in the SET-UP
menu to format a media.
Note that formatting the media will erase all data on the card, including protected
files. Always copy any important files that you do not want to lose to your PC
beforehand.
c.Prepare
the power supply.
Use
the AC adapter AC-5VX (sold separately from the camera).
d.Prepare
the USB cable or IEEE 1394 cable.
Have
the USB cable bundled with your camera ready.
2.Firmware
version checking procedure
Insert
a blank formatted media in the camera. Turn on your FinePix S3 Pro while holding
down the [BACK] button. The number will displayed "CURRENT" showing the camera's
current firmware version. |

After checking the firmware version, press the [BACK] button and then turn the
camera off.
3.Downloading
the firmware upgrade
Read
the firmware upgrade user license agreement and agree to the terms before downloading
the upgrade. |
4. Firmware
upgrading procedure
a. Download the firmware upgrade.
You
can download the firmware upgrade using the "Downloading the firmware upgrade" link
on this page.

If
the file size does not match the figures given above, download the firmware upgrade
file again.
b.Copy "FPUPDATE.DAT" in
this folder to the media. (The data is copied without generating a folder.)
The
software provided on the CD-ROM bundled with the camera must be installed on
the PC.
Always use the AC adapter when upgrading the firmware.
•Windows PC users
1.Connect the camera to the PC in DSC mode.
*Refer to the FinePix S3 Pro Owner's Manual (p.115) for more information
on connecting the camera in DSC mode.
2.Open the "My Computer" window.
The camera appears in My Computer as a "Removable disk" or "FinePix" icon.
* This varies depending on the operating system and other software used.
3.Double-click the "Removable disk" or "FinePix" icon in My Computer to open
the disk window.
4.Drag and drop the "FPUPDATE.DAT" firmware file into the window opened in step
3.
5. Check that "FPUPDATE.DAT" has been copied to "Removable disk" or "FinePix".
6. Cancel the DSC connection and disconnect the camera from the PC.
This completes the copying of the firmware upgrade to the Media.
•Macintosh users
1.Connect the camera to your Macintosh in DSC mode.
*Refer to the FinePix S3 Pro Owner's Manual (p.115) for more information on connecting
the camera in DSC mode.
2. The camera appears in the Finder as an "Untitled" or "Unlabeled" icon.
* This varies depending on the operating system and other software used.
3. Double-click the "Untitled" or "Unlabeled" icon in the Finder to open the
disk window.
4. Drag and drop the downloaded "FPUPDATE.DAT" firmware file into the window
opened in step 3.
5. Check that "FPUPDATE.DAT" has been copied to "Untitled" or "Unlabeled".
6. Cancel the DSC connection and disconnect the camera from the PC.
This completes the copying of the firmware upgrade to the Media.
c. Upgrade the
firmware using the media.
Load
the media containing the copied firmware upgrade into the camera.
(If you copied the firmware upgrade using the camera and the media is already
in the camera, proceed to step [3-c].)
d. Turn the
camera on.
Turn
the camera on while holding down the [BACK] button. |

[left button] to select "OK".
