FinePix S8000fd Firmware (camera control software) Update Ver.1.02

This description is for FinePix S8000fd Firmware (camera control software) Update Ver.1.02 from Ver.1.00 or Ver.1.01.
•Detail of the update

1. The firmware(Ver.1.01 to Ver.1.02) update incorporates the following issues.

 (1) Shortens delay in start operation with an xD-picture Card.


2. The firmware(Ver.1.01) update incorporates the following issues.

 (1) Countermeasure for PC connection between the 4GB memory card inserted camera and PC on Windows Vista.
    Data transfer from PC to the camera has been enabled under usage of FinePixViewer.

 (2) Fix the issues in high speed continuous Shooting function when ISO sensitivity is set to "AUTO".
  • Exposure level shooting in low brightness condition has been corrected.
    (In some shooting condition, dark or black images are captured even in gloomy scenes.)
  •Miss description of ISO sensitivity on Exif tag has been corrected, when shooting at ISO640.
    (ISO sensitivity was recorded as "ISO64". mistakenly.)


•Precaution

1. If firmware updating fails, the camera may no longer operate correctly in some cases.
    Carefully read the notes provided here.

2. Always use the AC adapter when updating the firmware as a basic manner.
    Never turn the camera off or attempt to use any of the camera controls while the firmware is being overwritten.

3. Firmware updating requires approximately 10 seconds.

4. Once the firmware has been updated, the previous version cannot be restored.

5. You can update Ver.1.02 from any of Ver.1.00 or Ver.1.01 directly.

1.Preparation

a.Prepare the target digital camera.

FinePix S8000fd (Ver.1.00 or Ver.1.01)

b.Prepare the media.
The firmware upgrading procedure requires a formatted media. Refer to the FinePix S8000fd Owner's Manual (p.120) for information on using "FORMAT" in the SET-UP menu to format a media.
Note that formatting the media will erase all data on the media, including protected files. Always copy any important files that you do not want to lose to your PC beforehand.

c.Prepare the power supply.
Use the AC adapter (AC-5VX).
*If you do not have it, you may use new 2-AA type alkaline batteries, or fully-charged 2-AA type Ni-MH batteries.

d.Prepare the USB cable.
Have the USB cable bundled with your camera ready.



2.Firmware version checking procedure
Insert a blank formatted media in the camera. Turn on your FinePix S8000fd while holding down the [DISP/BACK] button. The number will displayed "CURRENT" showing the camera's current firmware version.

After checking the firmware version, press the [MENU/OK] button and then turn off your camera.


3.Downloading the firmware upgrade
Read the firmware upgrade user license agreement and agree to the terms before downloading the upgrade.

4. Firmware upgrading procedure
a. Download the firmware upgrade and the transfer program.

You can download the firmware upgrade using the "Downloading the firmware upgrade" link on this page.
The following files must be downloaded:
•Windows PC users

Downloaded files must be put on "Desk top" of your PC.
If the file size does not match the figures given above, download the firmware update file again.


•Macintosh users Firmware update transfer program

Downloaded files must be put on desk top of your PC.
If the file size does not match the figures given above, download the firmware update file again.
Double-Click "FPUPDATETRF.dmg" to make a new folder that includes "FPUPDATETRF".
Move "FPUPDATETRF" in the new folder onto desk top of your PC.


b.Copy "FPUPDATE.DAT" to the media.
  (The data is copied without generating a folder.)
Before copying the update file, the software provided on the CD-ROM bundled with the camera must be installed on the PC.
Always use the AC adapter when updating the firmware.
*If you do not have it, you can use new 2-AA type alkaline batteries, or fully-charged 2-AA type Ni-MH batteries.


•Windows PC users/Macintosh users
1. Remove all the USB devices connected to the PC except for the mouse.
2. Connect the camera to the PC.
 * Refer to the FinePix S8000fd Owner's Manual (p.131) for more information on connecting the camera.
As the software "FinePix Viewer" is activated automatically after connecting, this software must be stopped before the next procedure.

3. Double-click the "FPUPDATETRF" file on desk top of your PC.
  Click the [OK] button on the window.

4. Click the [Exit] button on the window.

   (Example on Windows)


5. Cancel the DSC connection and disconnect the camera from the PC.

6. Turn off the camera
This completes the copying procedure of the firmware update to the media.



c. Update the firmware using copied file.

1. Turn the camera on while holding down the [BACK] button.
*This screen appears regardless of whether the AC adapter is already connected or not.
When the screen shown above appears, press the [OK] button.

2.Press the [left button] to select "OK".

Press the [OK] button.
3.Press the [OK] button.
4.Press the [OK] button.
The firmware updating is started.


It takes about 10 seconds for completing the firmware update.  
5.When the screen shown above appears, the firmware update has been successfully completed.
6. Turn the camera off

e.Check the upgraded firmware.
By following the above procedure "2. Firmware version checking procedure" see the firmware version.
