Depending on the setting of the camera, the expression “range” of brightness to darkness differs with each having its own limitations. Conventional cameras focus too much on trying to capture the details of dark areas, generating color washouts on bright areas as a result.
This is the main cause behind the “washout” effect when shooting winter landscapes.
