FUJIFILM announces processless CTP technology

Dusseldorf, Germany, January 26, 2004
Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.

At drupa 2004 Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd. will exhibit a processless plate which is under development.

The practical goal of processless CTP systems is compatibility with existing CTP engines in order to reduce investment levels and remove the requirement for dedicated imaging devices and the elimination of any post processing. FUJIFILM has been developing plate technologies with this goal in mind.

Current processless plate technologies available in the industry have some limitations as follows
  • Low sensitivity and productivity
  • Shorter run lengths which limit the type of suitable commercial print applications
  • Poor printability on scum resistance and ink⁄water balance

FUJIFILM R&D is striving to develop a processless plate designed to achieve the same quality and performance on press as existing CTP systems. The three points described above are the most critical issues to be overcome and unless these criteria can be addressed, this technology will not be widely adopted in an industry where strict quality control and fast turnaround times are the norm.

More details will be available at drupa 2004.
