Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd. launches new generation FM screening named “TAFFETA”, which provides customers with reduced unevenness and graininess, and also improved printability.

The introduction of CTP has meant that high definition FM screening is now regarded as a practical and realistic solution for high quality printing. Specifically, FM screening allows commercial printers to eliminate moir・ provide more detailed colour reproduction, print with more than 4 colours, and reduce ink usage on-press.

However, FM screening is not always simple and easy to implement, and many printers experience problems in adopting this technology. This is because FM screening requires the parameters associated with printing, like press conditions, plate quality, ink ⁄water balance and stable plate processing conditions to be very tightly controlled.

In order to meet the requirements for the practical implementation of printing with FM screening, FUJIFILM has now developed a new generation FM screening solution called “TAFFETA”. This solution overcomes the difficulties associated with current FM screening technologies by incorporating FUJIFILM’s highly sophisticated digital imaging technology called “Image Intelligence™”.

At drupa 2004, FUJIFILM is introducing “TAFFETA20” (20 micron FM screening) and will show printed samples demonstrating the quality that can be achieved on its stand. The features of this product are as follows.

In addition to the above typical FM screening benefits, FUJIFILM “TAFFETA” allows customers to achieve reduced unevenness and graininess and improve printability, which differentiates TAFFETA from other existing FM screening solutions. By adding TAFFETA into FUJIFILM’s product lineup, FUJIFILM is able to demonstrate its strength as a leading supplier of CTP technologies by offering both existing revolutionary AM screening “Co-Res SCREENING” and this new FM screening for high definition printing. FUJIFILM believes that the requirements for screening technology will differ depending on the production environment and type of job, and that it is reasonable to provide flexible solution to customers by offering both AM screening and FM screening technologies so that customers can choose the most suitable solution on a job by job basis.
