The Russian Film director Alexey German Jr. has received the Silver Lion award for his film Paper Soldier at the 65th Venice International Film Festival 2008 (Russia)

Alexey German's has been awarded the Silver Lion for Best Director at the 65th Venice International Film Festival for his film Paper Soldier. The film also received an Ozella award for technical contribution (cinematography). As dubbing took until a few days before the opening of the festival, it was unclear whether the film would be shown.

The film was shot on FUJICOLOR ETERNA 400, and was by far the most visually beautiful film in this year's program. According to the views of the jury, by using ETERNA 400 Cinematographers Maksim Drozdov and Alisher Khamihodzhaev achieved marvelous reliability of images.

Set in Moscow and Kazakhstan in early 1960, Paper Soldier portrays the preparations to launch the first cosmonauts into space. The name of the film is derived from the famous song by Bulat Okudzhava, which acts as the musical motif of the film.
