Next generation color films :
the culmination of Fujifilm technology and innovation
When viewing short wavelength green light, the human eye automatically subtracts the red-light component, allowing it to make fine distinctions between subtle shades of color. To emulate this natural ability in photographic film, Fujifilm developed a “Green-Color-Correction Layer” (4th Color Layer) to reduce the films sensitivity to red when capturing green colors, enabling human eye-like discrimination of various shades of green, blue-green and yellow-green. We also introduced a “Red-Color-Correction Layer”, the first ever incorporated in a transparency film, to enhance the films ability to distinguish between various hues of red, orange, vermilion and scarlet. In a reverse action of the green correction layer, the Velvia 100F film suppresses the response to the green light component of long wavelengths. Accordingly, we have also developed a new “Blue-Color-Correction Layer” that reduces sensitivity to green light when capturing blue colors for a more precise distinction between shades of navy blue, sky blue and aquamarine.

With Velvia 100F and ASTIA 100F, Fujifilm introduces its proprietary PSHC (Pure, Stable & High-Performance Dye-Forming Coupler) technology employing completely new color couplers (the basic yellow, magenta and cyan color forming compounds). These advanced new couplers ensure high color purity, long-term image stability and outstanding color formation efficiency.
ASTIA 100F and Velvia 100F are the first color reversal films to take advantage of Fujifilms patented new yellow coupler technology, which succeeds in dramatically reducing magenta absorption, a major cause of color impurity, for exceptionally pure and clean yellow color formation.
The new-generation magenta coupler technology used in Fujifilms color papers, already acclaimed for its excellent color reproduction behavior, has been further enhanced to achieve even purer color formation, and is employed for the first time in a reversal film. It greatly reduces absorption of yellow and cyan to produce a magenta that is extremely pure.
Another Fujifilm-patent, the new cyan coupler technology, is also being applied for the first time in a color reversal film. Compared with conventional couplers, this revolutionary new cyan coupler sharply reduces magenta and yellow influence to ensure pure cyan formation.

The ultra-fine grain technology of FUJICHROME PROVIA 100F, which launched Fujifilms “F” (“fine grain”) line of films, has been further refined and crystallized as MSSC (Multi-Structured Sigma Crystal) technology, which efficiently guides photons to the light-sensitive elements of the film, resulting in improved latent image formation, higher speed and finer grain. ASTIA 100F boasts exceptional RMS granularity of 7* while Velvia 100F claims both ISO 100 standardization and an RMS granularity of 8*.
