FinePix A805 Firmware Update Ver.1.10

Preparing for updates

  1. 1.Prepare the target digital camera.
    • FinePix A805
  2. 2.Prepare the media.
    • The firmware updating procedure requires a formatted media. Refer to the Owner’s Manual for information on using "FORMAT" in the SET-UP menu to format a media.
    • Note that formatting procedure will delete all data on the media, including protected files. Always copy any important files that you do not want to lose to your PC beforehand.
  3. 3.Prepare the power supply.
    • Use the AC adapter (AC-3VX)
      *If you do not have it, you may use new 2-AA type alkaline batteries, or fully-charged 2-AA type Ni-MH batteries.
  4. 4.Prepare the USB cable.
    • Have the USB cable bundled with your camera ready.

Firmware version checking procedure

Insert a blank formatted media in the camera. Turn on your FinePix A805 while holding down the [DISP/BACK] button. The number will displayed "CURRENT" showing the camera’s current firmware version.

After checking the firmware version, press the [MENU/OK] button and then turn off your camera.

How to use this updater

STEP1 Download the firmware upgrade and the transfer program.

You can download the firmware upgrade using the "Downloading the firmware upgrade" link on this page.

Note: In case of FinePix A805, updating software is divided into 2 types.
For distinguish them, you must confirm the body number (serial number ) which is informed on the sticker on the bottom of the camera body:.

Type A

Please check 3rd digit of the body number (serial number)
e.g. 7BA******, 7AQ******, 7BL******, 7AW******, etc
If 3rd digit is "A", "Q", "L" or "W", please download this file.

Firmware upgrade

Type B

Please check 3rd digit of the body number (serial number)
e.g. 7BB******, 7CR******, 7BM******, 7CX******, etc
If 3rd digit is "B", "R", "M" or "X", please download this file.

<Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP, Macintosh users>

For copying the firmware update file to the media, at first please download "Firmware update transfer program" and install to your PC.

<Windows Vista users>

For copying the firmware update, please prepare the memory card reader for transferring the firmware update file to the media.

Downloaded files must be put on desk top of your PC.
If the file size does not match the figures given above, download the firmware update file again.

Macintosh users Firmware update

Firmware upgrade transfer program
File name FPUPDATETRF.dmg
File size 2,621,440 bytes

Downloaded files must be put on desk top of your PC.
If the file size does not match the figures given above, download the firmware update file again.
Double-Click "FPUPDATETRF.dmg" to make a new folder that includes "FPUPDATETRF".
Move "FPUPDATETRF" in the new folder onto desk top of your PC.

STEP2 Copy "FPUPDATE.DAT" to the media.

Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP users/Macintosh users

(The data is copied without generating a folder.)

Before copying the update file, the software provided on the CD-ROM bundled with the camera must be installed on the PC.
Always use the AC adapter when updating the firmware.

*If you do not have it, you can use new 2-AA type alkaline batteries, or fully-charged 2-AA type Ni-MH batteries.

1.Remove all the USB devices connected to the PC except for the mouse.

2.Connect the camera to the PC.
* Refer to the FinePix A805 Owner"s Manual (p.106) for more information on connecting the camera.
As the software "FinePix Viewer" is activated automatically after connecting, this software must be stopped before the next procedure.

(Example on Windows)

3.Double-click the "FPUPDATETRF" file on desk top of your PC.
Click the [OK] button on the window.

(Example on Windows)

4.Click the [Exit] button on the window.

5.Cancel the DSC connection and disconnect the camera from the PC.

6.Turn off the camera
This completes the copying procedure of the firmware update to the media.
This completes the copying of the firmware update to the media.

Windows Vista users

Copy "FPUPDATE.DAT" from the PC to the media using the media card reader or others.

STEP3 Update the firmware using the media.

Load the media containing the copied firmware update into the camera.

1.Turn the camera on while holding down the [BACK] button.

*This screen appears regardless of whether the AC adapter is already connected or not.
When this screen appears, press the [OK] button.

2.Press the [left button] to select "OK".

Press the [OK] button.

3.Press the [OK] button.

4.Press the [OK] button.

The firmware updating has started.

It takes about 20 seconds for completing the firmware update.

5.When this screen appears, the firmware update has been successfully completed.

6.Turn the camera off.

STEP4 Check the upgraded firmware.

By following the above procedure "Firmware version checking procedure", you can see the firmware version.
Cf. The media used for the firmware update should be reformatted before you use it for taking pictures again.
