FinePix F10 Firmware (camera control software) Update Ver.1.02

Preparing for updates

  1. 1.Prepare the target digital camera.
    • FinePix F10 version 1.00 and 1.01.
  2. 2.Prepare the xD-Picture card.
    • The firmware upgrading procedure requires a formatted xD-Picture card. Any capacity of an xD-Picture card will do for this purpose. Refer to the User’s Manual for information on using "FORMAT" in the SET-UP menu to format an xD-Picture card.
    • Note that formatting the xD-Picture card will erase all data on the card, including protected files. Always copy any important files that you do not want to lose to your PC beforehand.
  3. 3.Prepare the power supply.
    • Use the AC adapter (AC-5VW) and Terminal adapter bundled with your camera ready.
  4. 4.Prepare the USB cable.
    • Have the USB cable bundled with your camera ready.
  5. 5.Set the background color of the FinePix F10 to the blue color by pressing the 'menu/OK' button, selecting 'set-up', and selecting 'background color' function before you start firmware update.

Firmware version checking procedure

Insert a blank formatted xD-Picture card in the camera. Turn on your FinePix F10 while holding down the [DISP/BACK] button. The number will displayed "CURRENT" showing the camera’s current firmware version.

After checking the firmware version, press the [DISP/BACK] button and then turn the camera off.

STEP1 Download the firmware upgrade.

Windows PC users

Windows users should double-click "FinePixF10.EXE" to automatically decompress the file and create the "FPUPDATE.DAT" file in the same folder as "FinePixF10.EXE".
Macintosh users should decompress "FinePixF10.sit" using file decompression software (e.g. Aladdin Stuffit Expander).

If the file size does not match the figures given above, download the firmware upgrade file again.

STEP2 Copy the firmware upgrade onto the xD-Picture card.

Copy the downloaded "FPUPDATE.DAT" firmware file to the xD-Picture card prepared in step [1] above.
* The software provided on the CD-ROM bundled with the camera must be installed on the PC.
* Connect the camera to the PC.
Refer to the User’s Manual for details.

Windows PC users

  1. 1.Connect the camera to the PC in DSC mode. (Do not forget to use the Terminal adapter.)
    *Refer to the User's Manual for more information on connecting the camera in DSC mode.
  2. 2.Open the "My Computer" window.
    The camera appears in My Computer as a "Removable disk" or "FinePix" icon.
    * This varies depending on the operating system and other software used.
  3. 3.Double-click the "Removable disk" or "FinePix" icon in My Computer to open the disk window.
  4. 4.Drag and drop the downloaded "FPUPDATE.DAT" firmware file into the window opened in step 3.
  5. 5.Check that "FPUPDATE.DAT" has been copied to "Removable disk" or "FinePix".
  6. 6.Cancel the DSC connection and disconnect the camera from the PC.

This completes the copying of the firmware upgrade to the xD-Picture card.

Macintosh users

  1. 1.Connect the camera to the PC in DSC mode. (Do not forget to use the Terminal adapter.)
    *Refer to the User's Manual for more information on connecting the camera in DSC mode.
  2. 2.The camera appears in the Finder as an "Untitled" or "Unlabeled" icon.
    * This varies depending on the operating system and other software used.
  3. 3.Double-click the "Removable disk" or "FinePix" icon in My Computer to open the disk window.
  4. 4.Drag and drop the downloaded "FPUPDATE.DAT" firmware file into the window opened in step 3.
  5. 5.Check that "FPUPDATE.DAT" has been copied to "Untitled" or "Unlabeled".
  6. 6.Cancel the DSC connection and disconnect the camera from the PC.

This completes the copying of the firmware upgrade to the xD-Picture card.

STEP3 Upgrade the firmware using the xD-Picture card.

Load the xD-Picture card containing the copied firmware upgrade into the camera.
(If you copied the firmware upgrade using the camera and the xD-Picture card is already in the camera, proceed to step [4-d].)

STEP4 Turn the camera on.

Turn the camera on while holding down the [DISP/BACK] button.
*This screen appears regardless of whether the AC adapter is already connected.
When the screen shown above appears, press the [OK] button.

Use [left button] to select "OK".

Press the [OK] button.

Press the [OK] button. The firmware is then upgraded.

Firmware upgrading takes about 2 minutes.

When the screen shown above appears, the firmware upgrade has been successfully completed.

STEP5 Check the upgraded firmware.

Display the firmware version and confirm that "VER. 1.02" is displayed.
The xD-Picture card used for the firmware upgrade should be reformatted before you use it for taking pictures again.
