FinePix S4500 / S4400 / S4300 / S4200 Firmware Update Ver.1.01
Preparing for updates
- 1.Prepare the target digital camera.
- FinePix S4500 / S4400 / S4300 / S4200 (Version 1.00)
- 2.Prepare a formatted memory card.
- The firmware updating procedure requires a formatted memory card. Refer to the Owner's Manual for information on using "FORMAT" in the SET-UP menu to format a media.
- Note that formatting procedure will delete all data on the memory card, including protected files. Always copy any important files that you do not want to lose to your PC beforehand.
- 3.Prepare the power supply.
- Prepare either of the following batteries.
- Fully-charged AA-size Ni-MH batteries (4)
- New AA-size alkaline batteries (4)
- New AA-size Lithium batteries (4)
- Prepare either of the following batteries.
Firmware version checking procedure

Insert a blank formatted media in the camera. Turn on your "Camera" while holding down the [DISP/BACK] button. The number will displayed "CURRENT" showing the camera's current firmware version.
After checking the firmware version, press the [MENU/OK] button and then turn off your camera.

How to use this updater
STEP1 Download the firmware onto your PC.
You can download the firmware using the "Downloading the firmware upgrade" link on.

Downloaded files must be put on desk top of your PC.
If the file size does not match the figures given above, download the firmware update file again.
STEP2 Copy "FPUPDATE.DAT" to the memory card
- 1.Insert a memory card formatted by the camera into your card reader.
- 2.Copy the "FPUPDATE.DAT" file downloaded in step 1) onto the root directory of the memory card.
- 3.Remove the memory card from the card reader and insert it into the camera.
STEP3 Update the firmware.
Check the memory card containing the copied firmware update into the camera.
Always use fully-charged battery when updating the firmware.
1.Turn the camera on while holding down the [DISP/BACK] button.
When this screen appears, press the [OK] button.
2.Press the [left button] to select "OK".
Press the [OK] button.(The screenshot is an example of firmware upgrade from version 1.00 to version 1.10)
3.Press the [OK] button.
4.Press the [OK] button.
The firmware updating is started.
It takes approximatery 90 seconds for completing the firmware update.
5.When this screen appears, the firmware update has been successfully completed.
6.Turn the camera off
STEP4 Check the upgraded firmware.
By following the above procedure "Firmware version checking procedure", you can see the firmware version.
Cf. The media used for the firmware update should be reformatted before you use it for taking pictures again.
