FinePix S8000fd Firmware (camera control software) Update Ver.1.02
Preparing for updates
- 1.Prepare the target digital camera.
- FinePix S8000fd (Ver.1.00 or Ver.1.01)
- 2.Prepare the media.
- The firmware upgrading procedure requires a formatted media. Refer to the FinePix S8000fd Owner’s Manual (p.120) for information on using "FORMAT" in the SET-UP menu to format a media.
- Note that formatting the media will erase all data on the card, including protected files. Always copy any important files that you do not want to lose to your PC beforehand.
- 3.Prepare the power supply.
- Use the AC adapter (AC-5VX).
*If you do not have it, you may use new 2-AA type alkaline batteries, or fully-charged 2-AA type Ni-MH batteries.
- Use the AC adapter (AC-5VX).
- 4.Prepare the USB cable.
- Have the USB cable bundled with your camera ready.
Firmware version checking procedure

Insert a blank formatted media in the camera. Turn on your FinePix S8000fd while holding down the [DISP/BACK] button. The number will displayed "CURRENT" showing the camera’s current firmware version.
After checking the firmware version, press the [MENU/OK] button and then turn off your camera.

STEP1 Download the firmware upgrade.

Downloaded files must be put on "Desk top" of your PC.
If the file size does not match the figures given above, download the firmware update file again.

Downloaded files must be put on desk top of your PC.
If the file size does not match the figures given above, download the firmware update file again.
Double-Click "FPUPDATETRF.dmg" to make a new folder that includes "FPUPDATETRF". Move "FPUPDATETRF" in the new folder onto desk top of your PC.
STEP2 Copy "FPUPDATE.DAT" to the media.
(The data is copied without generating a folder.)
Before copying the update file, the software provided on the CD-ROM bundled with the camera must be installed on the PC.
Always use the AC adapter when updating the firmware.
*If you do not have it, you can use new 2-AA type alkaline batteries, or fully-charged 2-AA type Ni-MH batteries.
Windows PC users/Macintosh users
1.Remove all the USB devices connected to the PC except a mouse.
2.Connect the camera to the PC.
* Refer to the FinePix S8000fd Owner’s Manual (p.131) for more information on connecting the camera.
As the software "FinePix Viewer" is activated automatically after connecting, this software must be stopped before the next procedure.

3.Double-click the "FPUPDATETRF" file on desk top of your PC.
Click the [OK] button on the window.
(Example on Windows)
4.Click the [Exit] button on the window.
5.Cancel the DSC connection and disconnect the camera from the PC.
6.Turn off the camera
This completes the copying procedure of the firmware update to the media.
STEP3 Update the firmware using copied file.
1.Turn the camera on while holding down the [BACK] button.
*This screen appears regardless of whether the AC adapter is already connected or not.
When this screen appears, press the [OK] button.
2.Press the [left button] to select "OK".
Press the [OK] button.

3.Press the [OK] button.
4.Press the [OK] button.
The firmware updating is started.
It takes about 10 seconds for completing the firmware update.
5.When this screen appears, the firmware update has been successfully completed.
6. Turn the camera off
STEP4 Check the upgraded firmware.
By following the above procedure "Firmware version checking procedure", you can see the firmware version.
Cf. The media used for the firmware update should be reformatted before you use it for taking pictures again.
