Ver.4.40

The firmware update Ver.4.40 from Ver.4.32 incorporates the following issues:

Camera performance used with the XF50mmF1.0 R WR is optimized.

The phenomenon is fixed that in a multiple-flash shooting where the EF-X500 is used as a commander, flashes in some groups sometimes don’t fire correctly. Also in case the EF-X500 is used as a commander and the EF-60 as a remote flash, upgrade the camera firmware to the latest version.

Fix of minor bugs.

Addition of “Select Folder” and “Create Folder”

Enable to choose the folder in which subsequent pictures will be stored. And also enable to enter a five-character folder name to create a new folder in which to store subsequent pictures.

The firmware update Ver.4.01 from Ver.4.10 incorporates the following issues:
・The functions of “Select Folder” and “Create Folder”, which was planned to be included in Ver.4.10 will be incorporated in Ver.4.20 to be released in July 2018.

Addition of “Focus Bracketing”

The update will enable the photographer to shoot focus distance bracketing up to 999 frames. When the photographer starts shooting, the focal location is shifted with each activation of the shutter by the step of focus shift set from 1 to 10.

Compatible with the newly developed cinema lens FUJINON MKX18-55mmT2.9 lens and FUJINON MKX50-135mmT2.9 lens

The upgrade will add compatibility for the newly developed FUJINON MKX18-55mmT2.9 lens and FUJINON MKX50-135mmT2.9 lens
1) Aperture information can be displayed on the monitor. The upgrade allows users to select T-stop or F-stop.
2) The upgrade allows users to check the focus distance with the distance indicator shown on the monitor.
3) Automatically corrects the distortion and the color/brightness shading.
4) Camera automatically calculate the White Balance based on the lens position and deliver the color expressions with Film Simulation modes

Enlarged and customizable indicators or information

The upgrade allows users to enlarge indicators and information in the viewfinder and/or LCD monitor. This upgrade will also enable users to customize the location of where the information is shown on the display.

Addition of F-log SD card recording

The upgrade allows users to record F-log movie data into their SD card.

Addition of 1080/120P high-speed video mode

The upgrade allows users to shoot 1080/120P high-speed video (1/2, 1/4 and 1/5 speed slow motion), ideal for recording spectacular slow-motion footage

Enhanced Phase Detection AF

Latest updates to the AF algorithm provide the following performance enhancements :
1) The low-light limit for phase detection autofocus has been improved by approximately 1.5 stops from 0.5EV to -1.0EV, raising the precision and speed of autofocus in low-light environments.
2) The range at minimum aperture has been expanded from F8 to F11. For example, even when using the XF100-400mmF4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR with the tele converter XF2X TC WR, phase detection autofocus can now be used.
3) Major improvements have been made to the AF-C performance while operating the zoom, which provides major benefits when shooting sports and other scenarios in which the subjects moves unpredictably.
4) Finely-detailed surface textures of wild birds and wild animals can now be captured at high speed and with high precision as a result of improvement in phase detection autofocus.

Addition of “Flicker Reduction”

For enhancing the quality of indoor sports photography, the upgrade allows users to reduce flicker in pictures and the display when shooting under fluorescent lighting and other similar light sources.

New functions are added to store and read of camera settings by FUJIFILM X Acquire

Once connecting a camera to a computer via USB cable, the “FUJIFILM X Acquire” allows users to backup/restore camera settings to/from a file. With “FUJIFILM X Acquire” (ver.1.7 or newer), CUSTOM REGISTRATION/EDIT settings are also stored and read.

The problems below occurred in Ver.4.00 are fixed.

1) When RAW files, which were taken by X-T2 (before firmware ver.4.00), are converted in camera (ver.4.00) or by “FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO”, they are not converted properly.
2) When pressing the shutter button halfway under certain conditions, the live view can flicker.
3) In rare cases, a hang-up can occur in HC mode and so on.  

Ver.4.01

The firmware update Ver.4.01 from Ver.4.00 incorporates the following issues:

We have found some malfunctions in the firmware ver.4.00 released on May 8 2018. As a temporary solution for customers who have upgraded the firmware to ver.4.00, we have prepared a new firmware version of 4.01 whose functions are same as the ver.3.00.
Please update your camera to ver.4.01 to avoid the malfunctions.

New AF tracking algorithm for moving subject

Thanks to the newly developed image recognition algorithm, the update enhances AF-C to track moving subjects twice as fast as previous firmware. In addition, the update also enhances tracking to be able to capture up to 50% smaller moving subjects than before.

Support "FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO" for Mac

Once connecting a camera to a computer via USB cable, the “FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO” enables users to convert RAW files with X Processor Pro. The fast batch processing will also be available. The “FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO” can be downloaded from the FUJIFILM website for free.

Improve radio flash controller usability

The upgrade allows users to shoot with compatible third party studio flash in high speed sync. or TTL mode via their radio controllers.

Support for backup/restore of camera settings via "FUJIFILM X Acquire"

Once connecting a camera to a computer via USB cable, the “FUJIFILM X Acquire” allows users to backup/restore camera settings to/from a file. Copying all camera settings from one camera to another is available.

Support for "Instax SHARE SP-3"

Additionally,” Instax SHERE SP-3″ has become compatible with this camera.

RGB histogram display and highlight warning

If you press the function button allocated to the histogram, RGB histogram and highlight warning (High brightness portion will blink.) are displayed.

The phenomenon is fixed that exposure compensation is not correctly reflected to brightness of live view on LCD and EVF when ISO setting is "AUTO", exposure compensation is "C" and it is changed by the command dial.

The phenomenon is fixed that in rare cases, a freeze could occur during repeated CH (continuous high speed) shooting and so on.

The phenomenon is fixed that in the MF mode, repeated halfway shutter pressing can shift the focus point under a specific exposure condition.

Tether shooting is available by wireless communication

Option of "ALL" is added to AF mode.

With this option, select “All” in the AF mode so that you can select the AF mode and Focus Area size by only using the Command Dial.

Function extension for "Shutter AF" and "Shutter AE".

With the update, you can specify different settings for AF-S and AF-C in “Shutter AF” and for AF-S / MF and AF-C in “Shutter AE.”

Options of "-6" and "-7" are added in the EVF BRIGHTNESS setting.

With the additional options, even in an extremely low-light condition, the brightness of the EVF does not distract you from shooting.

Switchover of the main and sub displays in the Dual Display mode.

The update allows you to switch between the main and sub displays in the Dual Display mode.

Function assignment to the Rear Command Dial.

You can assign a specific function to be activated when the Rear Command Dial is pressed.

Image transfer speed becomes faster to a smartphone or a tablet from a memory card in the slot 2.

The phenomenon is fixed that in MF mode, a focus can shift in a specified condition (ex. repeated CL shooting).

Shooting RAW in Bracketing and Advanced Filters

The update enables you to use the RAW format when shooting not only in AE Bracketing but also in other Bracketing modes (ISO, Dynamic Range, White Balance, Film Simulations) and also in Advanced Filter modes.

Extended ISO 125 and 160 selectable

The update adds ISO125 and ISO160 to extended ISO levels available.

Programmable long exposure of up to 15 minutes

Long exposure in the T mode currently goes only up to 30 seconds. The update will allow users to extend it up to 15 minutes.

ON/OFF for 1/3-step shutter speed adjustment

The update allows you to turn off the Command Dial’s function to adjust shutter speed by 1/3 steps in order to prevent unintended adjustments.

Full-range ISO adjustments with the Command Dial

With the update, set the ISO “A” position to “Command” to adjust ISO sensitivity across the full range, including extended ISOs, with the Front Command Dial.

"AUTO" setting added for the minimum shutter speed in the ISO Auto setting

The update adds an AUTO option for the minimum shutter speed in the ISO Auto setting, that allows the camera to automatically define the minimum shutter speed according to the focal length of the lens attached.

Faster "Face Detection AF"

The update enables the use of Phase Detection AF for faster performance in Face Detection AF.

Improved in-focus indication in the AF-C mode

The update reduces focus hunting in the AF-C mode, making it easier to track a subject.

Addition of a smaller Focus Point size in Single Point AF

The update adds a smaller Focus Point size in Single Point AF, bringing the total number of available sizes to six. The new smallest size facilitates pin-point focusing.
* This function used with tether shooting is available with “Tether Shooting Plug-in PRO for Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® Ver.1.5.0”.

Addition of "Portrait / Landscape AF Mode Switching"

The update allows you to specify separate AF mode and AF point settings for portrait orientation and landscape orientation.
* This function used with tether shooting is available with “Tether Shooting Plug-in PRO for Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® Ver.1.5.0”. If you are using Ver.1.4.0 or before, set STORE AF MODE BY ORIENTATION to OFF in AF/MF SETTING.

Change of focus frame position while enlarging it

The update allows you to move the position of focus frame while enlarging it in Single Point in the AF-S mode or in the Manual Focus.

Activation of the Eye Sensor in video recording

The update allows you to use the Eye Sensor during video recording to automatically switch between EVF and LCD.

Change of ISO sensitivity during video recording

The update allows you to change ISO setting during video recording.

Re-autofocusing in video recording

With the update, half-press the Shutter Release button or press the button assigned to “AF-ON” function during video recording to re-do autofocusing.

Display live histogram during video recording

The update allows you to display a live histogram during video recording.

Optimization of external microphone's input level

The update optimizes external microphone’s input level (lower limit revised from -12dB to 20dB) to reduce white noise when an external microphone with preamp is connected.

Addition of "Eye Sensor + LCD Image Display" in the View Mode

The update gives the “Eye Sensor + LCD Image Display” option in the View Mode that allows you to shoot through the viewfinder and check images on the LCD, just as you would with an SLR.

Constant "Dual display mode"

With the update, the small window in the Dual mode stays on even when you half-press the shutter release button.

Automatic vertical GUI for LCD

With the update, when you hold the camera in the portrait orientation, the camera will automatically display the GUI on the LCD in the same orientation.

Name Custom Settings

The update allows you to assign a specific name to Custom Settings 1 – 7.

Copyright information in EXIF data

The update allows you to register the photographer’s name and the copyright holder’s name in advance so that the camera automatically adds the information to EXIF data for each image.

The update enable you to record 30-second “Voice Memo” clips in the Playback mode.

Extended AE Bracketing

The update extends AE Bracketing from the current 3 frames +/-2EV to up to 9 frames +/-3EV.

Addition of "Shoot Without Card" mode

With the update, you can have the “Shoot Without Card” mode turned OFF so that the camera cannot shoot when there is no SD card inserted.

Accessory option is added in firmware upgrade function. With this upgrade, firmware of accessory like Shoe Mount Flash can be upgraded with the camera.

[How to set the PC shooting]
Before connecting your camera to a computer, set the PC SHOOT MODE of the CONNECTION SETTING in the SET UP menu to USB AUTO.
*If the USB AUTO is selected, the camera mode will automatically change to tether shooting mode when the camera is connected to a computer via a USB cable.
*If the USB FIXED is selected, the camera always work as tether shooting mode. Therefore, the camera doesn’t work as normal shooting mode when the USB cable is not connected.

Lock function during shooting mode is added. The update will let users prevent from the unexpected dial/button operation.

[How to set]
First, select the function you wish to lock in BUTTON/DIAL SETTING>LOCK>FUNCTION SELECTION” in the Setup Menu.
And then, select the function in BUTTON/DIAL SETTING>LOCK>LOCK SETTING>SELECTED FUNCTION” in the Setup Menu.

*Select “ALL FUNCTION” to lock all the buttons and dials. This lock function can be allocated to a function button.

The shutter speed will be displayed in a preview image with the setting of SHUTTER AE OFF, ISO AUTO and Aperture-Priority.

The phenomenon is fixed that overexposure could happen with the setting of AF-C mode, AF-C PRIORITY SELECTION and FACE DETECTION ON.

The phenomenon is fixed that AF function doesn't work well in the tele-photo area with XF18-135mmF3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR.

The phenomenon is fixed that hung-up could happen when carrying out SELECT FROM NETWORK LIST of MANUAL SETUP in PC AUTO SAVE SETTING.

The phenomena is fixed that CH HIGH SPEED BURST (continuous high speed) doesn't work well with fixed exposure and fixed amount of flash luminescence (TTL-L or flash M mode) while used with FUJIFILM Shoe Mount Flash (excluding EF-X8)

The phenomenon is fixed that Flash i40 made by Nissin for FUJIFILM doesn't fire.

Firmware Update Steps

  1. Check the firmware version.
  2. Prepare a formatted memory card.
  3. Download the firmware and copy it to the card.
  4. Put the memory card with the firmware in the camera and update it.

Precaution

If firmware updating fails, the camera may no longer operate correctly in some cases. Carefully read the notes provided here*Always use the fully-charged battery when updating the firmware as a basic manner. Never turn the camera off or attempt to use any of the camera controls while the firmware is being overwritten.

  • You can update the firmware from old version directly to the latest one.
  • Firmware updating requires approximately 5 minutes.(maximum)
  • Once the firmware has been updated, some data of the previous version cannot be restored.
  • Please check here if you encounter any problems.

*Make sure there isn’t any file with the same name in the destination of the firmware to save. If there is a file with the same name, the browser may automatically alter the name of the firmware like the name and (1). A camera will not recognize the firmware correctly with an altered name like that.
