FinePix Z10fd Firmware (camera control software) Update Ver.1.01

Preparing for updates

  1. 1.Prepare the target digital camera.
    • FinePix Z10fd (Version 1.00)
  2. 2.Prepare a formatted Memory Card (xD-picture Card or SD Memory Card)
    • Refer to the FinePix Z10fd Owner’s Manual (p.95, 97 and 103) for information on using "FORMAT" in the SET-UP menu to format a memory card.
    • Note that the formatting procedure will delete all data on the memory card, including protected files. Always copy any important files that you do not want to lose to your PC beforehand.
  3. 3.Prepare the power supply.
    • Prepare an AC adapter (AC Power Adapter AC-5VX and DC coupler CP-45) or a fully charged NP-45 battery before updating.
  4. 4.Prepare the card reader.
    • Please note that Windows XP or Vista users can use the camera instead of a card reader. Prepare the USB cable bundled with your camera ready.

Firmware upgrading procedure

Firmware upgrading has five steps

  1. 1. Check the firmware version.
  2. 2. Download the firmware upgrade and the transfer program onto your PC.
  3. 3. copy "FPUPDATE.DAT" to the memory card.
  4. 4. Update the firmware.
  5. 5. Check the upgraded firmware.

Firmware version checking procedure

Insert a blank formatted memory card in the camera. Open the lens cover completely while holding down the [DISP/BACK] button.
The number displayed on the screen is the camera’s "CURRENT" firmware version.

Use of an AC adapter is recommended. If AC adapter is not available, please use a fully charged battery.
After checking the firmware version, press the [MENU/OK] button and then turn off your camera.

How to use this updater

STEP1 Download the firmware upgrade and the transfer program onto your PC.

You can download the firmware upgrade using the "Downloading the firmware upgrade" link on this page.

The following files must be downloaded:

Firmware upgrade
File name FPUPDATE.DAT
File size 4.2M bytes

The following transfer program is ONLY for Windows XP and Vista. Windows XP or Vista users can use the camera instead of a card reader.

STEP2 Copy "FPUPDATE.DAT" to the memory card.

You can choose either of the following methods.

  • Use a card reader
  • Use the camera and the USB cable (ONLY for Windows XP or Vista users)
    (Use a formatted xD-picture Card or SD Memory Card. SDHC Memory Card cannot be used.)

Use a card reader

  • 1.Insert a memory card formatted by the camera into your card reader.
  • 2.Copy the "FPUPDATE.DAT" file downloaded in step 2) onto the root directory of the memory card.
  • 3.Remove the memory card from the card reader and insert it into the camera.

Use the camera and the USB cable (ONLY for Windows XP or Vista users)
(Use a formatted xD-picture Card or SD Memory Card. SDHC Memory Card cannot be used.)

Both the downloaded firmware upgrade file and transfer program must be placed on the desktop of your PC.

1.Remove all the USB devices connected to the PC except for the mouse.

2.Connect the camera to the PC.
* Refer to the FinePix Z10fd Owner’s Manual (p.113-118) for more information on connecting the camera.
As the software "FinePix Viewer" is activated automatically after connecting, this software must be stopped before the next procedure.

3.Invocation for the transfer program

(Example on Windows XP)

Double-click "FPUpdataV.exe" on desk top of your PC
Click the [OK] button on the dialog.

(Example on Windows XP)

Click the [Exit] button on the dialog.

4.Turn off the camera.

5.Disconnect the camera from the PC.

This completes the copying procedure of the firmware update to the memory card.
For the next step, keep the memory card containing the copied firmware update in the camera.

STEP3 Update the firmware.

Check the memory card containing the copied firmware update into the camera.
Always use an AC adapter or a fully charged battery when updating the firmware.

1.Open the lens cover completely while holding down the [BACK] button.

*Use of an AC adapter is recommended. If AC adapter is not available, please use a fully charged battery.
Press the [OK] button.

2.Select "OK".

Press the [OK] button.

3.Press the [OK] button.

4.Press the [OK] button. The firmware is then upgraded.

It takes about 15 seconds for completing the firmware update.

When this screen appears, the firmware update has been successfully completed.

5.To turn the camera off, close the lens cover.

STEP4 Check the upgraded firmware.

Following the procedure in step 1)Check the firmware version,Econfirm the current firmware version.
