FinePix Z900EXR / Z909EXR Firmware (camera control software) Update Ver.1.02

Preparing for updates

  1. 1.Prepare the target digital camera.
    • FinePix Z900EXR / Z909EXR (Version 1.00 or 1.01)
  2. 2.Prepare a formatted Memory Card (SD Memory Card)
    • Refer to the FinePix Z900EXR / Z909EXR ("Camera") Owner’s Manual for information on using "FORMAT" in the SET-UP menu to format a memory card.
    • Note that the formatting procedure will delete all data on the memory card, including protected files. Always copy any important files that you do not want to lose to your PC beforehand.
  3. 3.Prepare the power supply.
    • Prepare either of the following batteries.
      • Fully-charged NP-45A
  4. 4.Prepare the card reader.
    • Please note that Windows users can use the camera instead of a card reader. Prepare the USB cable bundled with your camera ready.

Firmware upgrading procedure

Firmware upgrading has five steps

  1. 1. Check the firmware version.
  2. 2. Download the firmware upgrade and the transfer program onto your PC.
  3. 3. copy "FPUPDATE.DAT" to the memory card.
  4. 4. Update the firmware.
  5. 5. Check the upgraded firmware.

Firmware version checking procedure

(Firmware version is shown in the portion of "0.00".)

Turn on your Camera and show the "VERSION INFO" screen in "SET-UP" through "MENU" screen.
The number displayed on the screen is the camera’s "CURRENT" firmware version.

Use of either of the following batteries.

  • Fully-charged NP-45A

How to use this updater

STEP1 Download the firmware upgrade and the transfer program onto your PC.

You can download the firmware upgrade using the "Downloading the firmware upgrade" link on this page.

STEP2 Copy "FPUPDATE.DAT" to the memory card.

You can choose either of the following methods.

  • Use a card reader
  • Use the camera and the USB cable

Use a card reader

  • 1.Insert a memory card formatted by the camera into your card reader.
  • 2.Copy the "FPUPDATE.DAT" file downloaded in step 2) onto the root directory of the memory card.
  • 3.Remove the memory card from the card reader and insert it into the camera.

Use the camera and the USB cable

Before this procedure, the software provided on the CD-ROM bundled with the camera must be installed on the PC.
Both the downloaded firmware upgrade file and transfer program must be placed on the desktop of your PC.

1.Remove all the USB devices connected to the PC except for the mouse.

2.Connect the camera to the PC.
* Refer to the your "Camera" Owner’s Manual for more information on connecting the camera.
As the software "MyFinePix Studio" is activated automatically after connecting, this software must be stopped before the next procedure.

3.Invocation for the transfer program

(Example on Windows XP)

Double-click "FPUpdataV.exe" on desk top of your PC
Click the [OK] button on the dialog.

Click the [Exit] button on the dialog.

4.Turn off the camera.

5.Disconnect the camera from the PC.

This completes the copying procedure of the firmware update to the memory card.
For the next step, keep the memory card containing the copied firmware update in the camera.

STEP3 Update the firmware.

<NOTICE>

Screenshots depends on cameras.
Screenshots of FinePix Z900EXR / Z909EXR are somewhat differents from ones shown in steps below.
Check the memory card containing the copied firmware update into the camera.
Always use fully-charged NP-45A when updating the firmware.

1.Turn on your Camera by opening the lens cover and show the "VERSION INFO" screen in "SET-UP" through "MENU" screen.
Touch the "OK" icon.

(The current version is shown in the portion of "0.00".)

2.Touch the [OK] icon. The firmware updating has started.

(The current version is shown in the left. The new version the right.)

It takes approximately 60 seconds for completing the firmware update.

When this screen appears, the firmware update has been successfully completed.

3.Turn the camera off by closing the lens cover.

STEP4 Check the upgraded firmware.

Following the procedure in step 1) "Check the firmware version," confirm the current firmware version.
