While film cameras record the image generated by the light that enters through the lens onto photographic film, a digital camera uses a CCD sensor to transform the light into digital data. In other words, the image is captured as digital data. |

A digital photo is composed of small units of information, or "picture elements," known as pixels. In addition to digital cameras, computer monitors and other types of displays are made up of similar picture elements. Each pixel is made up of the three colors of red, green and blue (RGB). A higher number of pixels indicates a greater volume of information in the image, and pixel count has become a common measure of digital camera performance. |

The Super CCD is a CCD image sensor based on a totally new structural design concept. Rather than using conventional rectangular photodiodes, the Super CCD features octagonal photodiodes in a 45-degree arrangement enabling for the first time a difficult-to-achieve combination of high sensitivity, wide dynamic range, high signal/noise ratio, and high image resolution.

Resolution, or image density (the amount of detail), is indicated in dots per inch (dpi) – the number of pixels in each square inch of the image. Higher dpi means more detailed images. |

When the scene is adequately lit, setting the camera at the lowest sensitivity will enable you to capture highly detailed images. In low light or when shooting rapidly moving subjects, a higher sensitivity setting will help you capture the images you're aiming for.

Fujifilm's Real Photo Technology combines proprietary optics, image capture, and image data processing to achieve exceptionally high sensitivity with very low noise. Characterized by superb optics, the FUJINON lens forms a bright, precise image on the 5th-generation Super CCD HR, which works in tandem with the exclusive Fujifilm RP (Real Photo)Processor to perform highly sophisticated image data processing at ultra-high speed. Even at maximum pixel resolution and highest sensitivity, resulting photos are vividly natural and beautiful.

Instead of film, digital cameras record captured images on small digital memory cards. Images stored on digital media can be transferred to a computer, output on a printer, or printed at your local photo shop. |
