May is over, but awareness is not a matter of a month or the color of the ribbon. Awareness should be maintained all year round.
In my family of five — my parents, my siblings, and me — there were four different cancers : breast, granulosa, colon, and ovarian. I always thought that one day I would get cancer myself. Since I wasn’t exposing myself to the sun, I was 100% sure it wouldn’t be skin cancer. But I was completely wrong.
Over the past year, I’ve had two carcinomas and an actinic keratosis, which is considered a precancerous lesion.
How it started..
During an appointment with my osteopath, she spotted a strange-looking mole on my head. She took a photo and sent it to me.
At first, I didn't look at it, assuming it was nothing, but after seeing the picture, I knew immediately that it was cancer.
In fact, I had already seen the skin cancer assessment system (the ABCDE criteria) and it looked like one.
Each letter is for an alert signal :
A : Asymmetry
B : Border
C : Color
D : Diameter
E : Evolving
