I never thought I would be here in this role but God wanted me here. It has been a sobering privilege to walk this journey with women facing cancer and witness beautiful examples of courage and grace. As a gynaecologist I stand with every woman and every girl in creating a future where there is less cancer and more cures; more support and less stigma. A future where every woman fighting cancer never feels alone.
Hope is being part of a team.
Together, we face the hard days and the heartbreak.
Together, we search for answers and find solutions.
Together, we walk beside the women we serve and build better futures for women facing cancer.
Healthcare providers feel it too. Fighting cancer is teamwork, and over time our patients begin to feel like family and friends. A person diagnosed with cancer is never “just another patient.” Every cancer care journey is a privilege for us, even in the hardest moments. We celebrate every win, but we also feel the pain that cancer brings into the lives of the people we care for—and their loved ones. Many of us carry those challenges home. And yes—sometimes we get overwhelmed too, especially when our role shifts from finding a cure to simply bringing comfort.
We feel it, because we care.
No man is an island. It takes a special team to take care of the women we serve. It's important to take the time to care for each other so that we can continue to protect women from the impact of cancer.
The moment you say the words “you have cancer,” a life is irrevocably changed. However gently they are delivered, they echo loudly. As doctors, we witness not only what cancer does to the individual, but to their family as well. We see lives turned upside down—plans interrupted, futures rewritten, and relationships tested or even broken. Yet alongside the devastation, we also bear witness to something extraordinary: the strength and resilience of the human spirit, as people reclaim pieces of themselves that cancer tries to take away.
