FUJIFILM concludes yet another edition of the “Mutirão da Mama” with 2,400 mammograms
October 1, 2019
The initiative promoted by the company, world leader in the development of solutions for diagnostic imaging, in partnership with clinics and hospitals across the country, provided free examinations to underprivileged women
During Pink October, FUJIFILM, the world leader in the development of diagnostic imaging solutions, promoted for the fourth consecutive year, the “Mutirão da Mama” [Mammogram Task Force], in the states of São Paulo, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Pará, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, Pernambuco, Ceará and Paraíba. The initiative, which aimed to promote access to mammograms, performed 2,400 exams. Over the four years, the campaign has managed to help more than 7,000 women.
"We know the importance that the action represents, providing awareness and access to women who need it, since mammograms allows the early diagnosis of breast cancer, saving lives. We are very satisfied with the results obtained in these four years," says Livia Magnani, product specialist for the FUJIFILM medical division. "The initiative was only possible thanks to the partnerships made with clinics and hospitals that operate digital mammograms – Amulet – by FUJIFILM in several states in the country, she adds.
Increasingly concerned with the well-being and health of society, FUJIFILM has developed a state-of-the-art digital mammogram, with the exclusive Harmony concept, which includes a range of solutions, especially developed to reduce patient discomfort during the mammography exam. In addition, another feature of the device is the HCP (Hexagonal Close Pattern) detector, which produces clear images with lower doses of radiation.
The participating clinics and hospitals also got involved in the campaign. According to Marília Uchôa, manager of the Derbimagem of Recife, it was gratifying and rewarding to participate in this event. "We saw many women who were grateful and interested in taking care of their health. The campaign was a success, so much so that we extended it a little and served more women than the number sponsored. We are very happy to participate in this campaign with FUJIFILM," she points out.
According to Dr. Claudia Mameri, who has a clinic in Vitória, the exams they performed during the action were donated to AFECC - Women's Association for Education and Fight Against Cancer , which helped to attract the women who were going to do the exams. "Among the 100 exams we conducted, 40 of them were dedicated to indigenous women. Before the exam, I gave a short talk about the importance of the breast cancer prevention campaign and how the exam worked. I feel very fulfilled for being able to be part of this initiative," she says.
Odete da Silva Dias, 61, one of the patients who underwent the mammography at the Ultra Imagem clinic, in Recife, says that every year she undergoes a mammogram with SUS [Single Health Service], but that because it is a slow process, it often takes too long. "It's my first time in this campaign. I thought the initiative was excellent. Wonderful! I was very well served and I am also happy because many people were benefited by this work," she highlights.
"We believe that prevention is the best way to cure possible breast cancer. Therefore, this campaign is very important. To carry out the exams, we have partner NGOs, who were able to indicate needy women," says Ivana Abreu de Sousa Castro, manager of Clínica São Marcelo, in Goiânia.
