FUJIFILM “WEAR RED AND GIVE” EVENT RAISES MONEY TO FIGHT HEART DISEASE
February 1, 2019
Hundreds attend today’s luncheon to support the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women national campaign
Valhalla, N.Y. – Judy Melillo, Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for FUJIFILM Holdings America Corporation, announced the company’s ‘Wear Red and Give’ health-and-wellness luncheon at the FUJIFILM Holdings America Corporation office in Valhalla. The goal of today’s luncheon is to raise awareness and funds to support the fight against heart disease, the number one killer of women in the U.S.
‘Go Red For Women’ is the American Heart Association’s national movement, created by women, for women, dedicated to uncovering the truth about women and heart disease – an often silent, hidden and misunderstood killer – so that all women can share the truth and those afflicted can have a fighting chance.
Melillo is the Chair of the 16th Annual Westchester Go Red For Women campaign and is leading fundraising and community outreach efforts.
On the first Friday of every February, which is designated as American Heart Month, the country comes together for National Wear Red Day, igniting a wave of red from coast to coast. This annual groundswell unites millions of people for a common goal: the eradication of heart disease and stroke.
“This is a powerful and enduring national campaign, but today’s luncheon is a signature annual event in which we come together as a community united in the fight against heart disease in women,” said Melilo. “Only 55 percent of women know heart disease is their number one killer, and less than half know what are considered healthy levels for cardiovascular risk factors like blood pressure and cholesterol. The Go Red For Women movement exists to make sure women know their risk so they can take action to protect their health and the health of their families.”
The heart-healthy luncheon today included a presentation from nationally-renowned fitness expert Lisa Avellino; testimony from Bridgette Ratliff, a heart transplant survivor; and a demonstration led by Jacqi Justice, a functional nutritionist, who shared heart healthy recipes and the latest research.
