TOKYO, July 20, 2020 — FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Kenji Sukeno) is proud to announce that four of its imaging-related products and services, including the photograph cloud service “PhotoBank” and camera Apps. for smartphones “Fontgenic”, have won the “Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design 2020”, a product design award program organized by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen based in Essen, Germany.
This award follows receiving the “Red Dot Award: Product Design” this March for 24 products, including those in the “instax” series of instant cameras and the “X Series” and “GFX Series” of digital cameras as well as the high precision lens film for inkjet printing “OperaPass.”
The company has been recognized for products of diverse business fields and won the Red Dot Award for seven consecutive years. A total of 98 products have won the award so far, such as the ultra-short throw projector “FUJIFILM PROJECTOR Z5000” and portable X-ray unit “CALNEO Xair,” both of which received the highest-ranking “Best of the Best Award” in 2019.

The Red Dot Award is an international design award launched in 1955, and it is recognized as one of the world's three most prestigious design awards, alongside Germany's “iF Design Award” and the United States' “International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA).” The award, consisting of the three categories of Brands & Communication Design, Product Design, and Design Concept, is extended to products on the basis of excellence in design innovation, functionality, ergonomics, ecological compatibility, and durability. This year, the Brands & Communication Design category received 6,992 entries from 50 countries around the world, and these were judged by internationally renowned design experts.
Fujifilm offers ways to enjoy photography through various products and services, such as instant cameras and cloud services that make photo organizing easy. This time, the company has been honored for its smartphone Apps. adopting an interface that is simple to manage even for first-time users and its packaging design intuitively expressing the merits of its instant camera in the storefront.

The Photobank can convert pictures saved on a smartphone as well as photo prints stored on film or in albums to digital data and manage them centrally. It can organize a large quantity of photos neatly and in a way that is easy to see, such as by automatically creating albums and consolidating similar pictures to display them as one, so the user can look through photos comfortably. Furthermore, Fujifilm’s original AI analyzes the subject or scene and automatically tags each picture using a keyword. The user can quickly and intuitively find the intended photo by narrowing down keywords, so the pictures from that special day are easy to locate.
2) Camera App for smartphone “Fontgenic”

When users take pictures with their smartphones, this camera Apps. can extract handwritten letters or drawings from the background just by tapping on them and combine them like stickers with another image to take a photo. Everyday pictures become more stylish and users have more fun remembering their travels by adding writing to their photos. The application makes possible a previously nonexistent photography experience by making writing the starting point for pictures, such as with an operation flow beginning with extracting letters and a mechanism to take pictures with the extracted writing superimposed. Anyone can create stylish pictures while feeling like they’re playing a game, without difficult processing or editing.
3) On-line albums ordering service “FUJIFILM School Photo, Graduation Album Editor”

The FUJIFILM School Photo Graduation Album for nursery school substantially reduces nursery teachers’ burden in creating graduation albums. In addition to automatic image sorting/layout functions to analyze which children are featured in photos chosen for an album, the service is also equipped with the “Face Detection GUI” function to confirm the number of pictures in which each child appears. The service displays children who do not appear in pictures in the album on the operation screen, so teachers can easily create albums featuring all the children.
4) Hybrid instant camera “instax mini LiPlay” packaging

Product packaging for the hybrid instant camera “instax mini LiPlay,” the first in the “instax” series equipped with the Sound function to record sound and which supports card-sized mini format film. The “instax mini LiPlay” can turn data recorded on the camera into a QR code to print on instant film along with the photo, conveying the sentiments the picture encompasses as a voice message, and users can enjoy the camera in a variety of settings. Packaging design expresses the essence of the design of the instant camera itself with simple graphics and embossing and intuitively conveys the distinctiveness and merits of the design of the camera when displayed in the storefront.
