About Structural Color Inkjet Technology

The structural colors inspired by nature have been used in decorative items since ancient times. Fujifilm Group's molecular control technology is applied to Structural Color Inkjet Technology to create fine structures in the ink that is ejected onto a film base material, causing it to produce the color. By preparing multiple types of ink that produce structural colors with different hues, and by adjusting the combination and density of the inks, it is possible to dye in many structural colors and gradients to achieve a high level of aesthetic appeal.

Furthermore, Structural Color Inkjet Technology can be combined with a variety of light sources to create a wide range of color expressions so that it is suitable for decorating transparent resins and glass. These characteristics are apparent in the exterior of the pavilion.
In addition to the watch faces, art pieces, and ornaments that have been decorated with this technology so far, it can also be used for interior and exterior design. Also, because it can be controlled the reflection and transmission of light, it can be applied to spatial design, such as decorating solar panels and displays.
In the future, we plan to leverage the aesthetic appeal of this technology and expand its applications across a wide range of purposes by combining it with new processing technologies.

Features of Structural Color Inkjet Technology

By combining such features, Structural Color Inkjet Technology has the potential to create decorative expressions that make use of light. It also enables combining of functions and designs that make use of light in novel and original ways. Furthermore, this technology enables on-demand printing of structural colors that do not exist in nature, expressed through various file formats. This feature creates a completely new level of aesthetic appeal.
