Meeting technology that just works
FUJIFILM Connected Workspaces delivers from the foundations up

MiTek is a global building technology partner, helping advance the construction industry through innovative products, software and off-site building solutions. Its proprietary software enables frame and truss manufacturers to render house plans and automatically specify the MiTek timber connectors required. This offering, and MiTek itself, are known for ease of use and seamless experiences.

The new Auckland facility is part of MiTek’s broader investment in its people, customers and future growth across the APAC region. By investing in modern, purpose-built workplaces, MiTek is creating environments that support collaboration, innovation and customer engagement, while demonstrating confidence in the long-term success of the business.

As MiTek continued to grow, bringing Auckland employees together into a single purpose-built facility created an opportunity to deliver a workplace experience that better reflected the company’s innovative culture and commitment to customers. The new facility would enhance collaboration, strengthen team connections and provide a modern environment for customer training and engagement.

Daniel Heathershaw, MiTek’s Senior Manager, Regional IT Asia Pacific, says the legacy technology created friction for users and relied heavily on support from IT.

“Historically, meetings could involve connecting devices, troubleshooting audio issues, pushing a lot of buttons, and requiring IT assistance before people could actually join the meeting and start collaborating.”

A single, purpose-built facility would bring together the manufacturing and office support teams and better connect them to colleagues in the APAC region and the rest of the world. The AV system for the new building also needed to meet MiTek’s global IT requirements.

In a global organisation operating across multiple regions and business functions, delivering a consistent technology experience for every user requires careful planning and execution.

The complexity of simplicity

MiTek required an AV solution that hid the technical complexity from the user. For that, Daniel knew he needed a partner with the experience to consider the human experience and the build environment, not just the technology. Daniel was also overseeing the project from Australia — he needed eyes on the ground, and people he could trust.

“We were looking for a partner that was more than just an equipment supplier. We Australia or joining remotely from any other location in the world.”

needed them to understand the overall workplace experience, not just recommend individual products.”

The Connected Workspaces team from FUJIFILM Business Innovation NZ (FBNZ) was an immediate frontrunner, providing highly detailed, proactive AV system design and planning, says Daniel.

“The team really took the time to understand how our spaces would be used, and how the teams would collaborate.”

With that insight, FBNZ designed a turnkey solution built on Cisco Room Bars and Microsoft Teams Rooms, providing a consistent meeting experience that integrated seamlessly with MiTek’s global collaboration environment.

More importantly, says Daniel, the solution would remove unnecessary barriers for users, making it as easy to walk into a room, start a meeting, and share content as it is to sit down and begin collaborating.

“We wanted a consistent experience, regardless of whether someone was in New Zealand, Australia or joining remotely from any other location in the world.”

Connecting to workers across the organisation

The Auckland team would soon be under one roof, so the new building needed spaces where the whole team could connect.

A purpose-built collaboration ‘canteen’ space featuring dual 98-inch displays was created to support company-wide hybrid town halls and large-scale team communications. As with any highly customised installation, some early optimisation work has been undertaken to fine-tune the experience.

“We get the factory, warehouse and office teams together in the same space, and they can connect directly with leaders anywhere in the organisation, whether that’s our Managing Director in Australia, executives in North America, or regional leaders across APAC.

Much of MiTek’s workforce isn’t sitting behind computers. MVIX digital signage throughout the warehouse lets managers and HR heads connect and communicate with those on the factory floor — essential for upskilling and building culture.

Those screens are throughout the office, warehouse and manufacturing facility, so we can really reach all of our employees across that whole facility,” explained Daniel.

“We wanted a consistent experience, regardless of whether someone was in New Zealand and Australia.
Our goal was to create that consistent, intuitive experience that just worked every time, and essentially took IT out of the picture.
The right first impressions

Customer training is a core communication and marketing channel for MiTek. It hosts training sessions for customers on using its proprietary design software. The old training rooms featured dated technology, which ran contrary to MiTek’s position as an innovator in the construction industry.

“There’s no use in a technology company having second-rate technology on-site.”

The new premises would include a dedicated training room, with devices like Cisco Room Vision PTZ cameras for remote participants, and multiple screens acting as extended displays. This cutting-edge tech makes things simple for facilitators and leaves a positive impression with attendees.

“We want to present a professional, innovative image to our customers when they walk through the door, from the foyer right through to the training facilities. With customer training programmes planned to expand significantly throughout 2027, creating that experience is an important investment in both customer success and brand reputation.”

The new meeting spaces have made collaboration effortless.
On-the-ground problem-solving

FBNZ played a far greater part in the construction process than a standard vendor. It was on the ground collaborating with the builders and electricians to get the structural foundations right. The walls in the canteen needed reinforcing to cope with the weight of the massive screens. Network conduits needed to be architected before the walls were lined. Daniel could only be on-site every few months, so he felt relieved that he could rely on the FBNZ team.

“It does add a layer of stress, being remote. They were there while the building was being constructed, to sort through all the details you need to be on the ground for.”

Even with meticulous planning, Daniel says he expected snags to arise, but he was pleasantly surprised at how seamless the process was.

“FBNZ was integral to the solution. While we’ve implemented collaboration technology in many locations globally, this project involved a significant level of integration with the building and construction process. Having a partner in FBNZ with local expertise and strong on-the-ground engagement was extremely valuable.”

A Connected Workplace designed for growth

Now fully occupied by the Auckland team, the new building is already delivering the experience MiTek set out to achieve and Daniel is confident in the projects long term success.

“The people in the office just love it. They love being able to walk into a room, push a button, connect, share their screen, and do whatever they need to do.”

The elimination of frustrating starts to meetings also adds to the organisation’s efficiency.

“Even if it’s 10 or 20 minutes a day for different people, you add that up over a year. That’s a lot of time and cost savings.”

The simplicity of the solution has also reduced the level of IT support required. Since moving into the new facility, the team has seen only minimal meeting room support requests despite organisation-wide adoption.

“It’s just so intuitive, so it takes IT out of the picture so we can focus on more strategic initiatives rather than supporting meeting rooms. It needed to be so simple that people didn’t have to think about it. We really got that solution with the help of FBNZ.”
