creart, a creative and commercial print business based in Fulda, Germany, has invested in a Fujifilm Revoria Press PC2120 to expand its colour capabilities and provide a digital alternative for applications that would traditionally rely on offset printing and spot colours, while also responding to demand for shorter runs and faster turnaround times.
Founded in 1970 and employing around 30 people, creart provides creative design, photography, media services, commercial print production and multimedia solutions for customers ranging from local businesses to global brands.
Historically, creart combined offset printing and digital print production for a wide range of customer requirements. However, changing market dynamics, including declining offset volumes, shorter run lengths and increasing demand for rapid turnaround work, prompted the company to reassess its production capabilities. It was looking for a digital solution that could reproduce the colours and applications that had previously relied on offset and spot colours. The arrival of the Revoria Press PC2120 provided the combination of print quality, extended colour capability and automation that creart was in search of.
Torsten Gröger, Production Manager at creart, comments: "While digital production was already an offering at creart, we were searching to expand our offering for our customers. The Revoria Press PC2120 was the first production digital press we saw that gave us the print quality and colour capabilities we needed to produce a wider range of colours and an alternative for applications that may have previously relied on offset production."
A major factor in the decision was the press's expanded colour gamut, particularly the availability of green and pink toners. The company delayed its investment until the extended gamut configuration became available, recognising it as an important opportunity to offer customers a broader range of colour applications.
Using green and pink toners alongside CMYK, creart can reproduce 93% of Pantone spot colours, enabling more accurate brand colour matching and improved consistency between digital content and printed output. The expanded gamut also improves the reproduction of colours in RGB-designed artwork that can be difficult to achieve using CMYK alone.
Gröger comments: "Today, many of our customers and brands design for screens first, so being able to reproduce this massive range of colours in print is really important. The Revoria allows us to reproduce colours much more accurately, meaning we can print what customers see on their screens."
creart can now use the Revoria PC2120 to produce jobs that previously required offset production or external suppliers, including spot-colour business cards, brochures featuring gold toner and other speciality colours, and short-run personalised marketing materials. The wider colour gamut has also enabled creart to create more representative sample products that more closely reflect the intended colours and effects, allowing customers to validate packaging and print concepts before large-scale production.
Gröger comments: “Customer response has been overwhelmingly positive, with clients highlighting improved colour reproduction, better digital-to-print colour matching, and more vibrant results on uncoated and natural papers. In one case, a customer even requested that a gold effect be reduced because the finish exceeded expectations compared with previous printed versions.”
Alongside enhanced print quality, the installation has also reduced production times on several existing jobs. A brochure production workflow that previously took around one hour can now be completed in just seven minutes thanks to the inline finishing in the Revoria Press PC2120. Similarly, a 48-page brochure incorporating process colours and gold toner has seen production times reduced from approximately one day to around six hours.
Gröger comments: “The integrated Plockmatic finishing solution was a critical part of the investment decision.
“We want to put paper in at one end and receive a finished product at the other. The combination of the Revoria and inline finishing allows us to do exactly that. We’ve maximised our operations and become much more efficient in production."
creart has also praised the Revoria Press PC2120's intelligent automation features, particularly its integrated media profiling capabilities, which help deliver strong first-time results, simplify operation and reduce make-ready times.
Gröger comments: “The team adapted quickly to the PC2120, supported by Fujifilm’s training, and we’re continuing to explore new applications. It gives us the colour gamut and productivity we need for both everyday work and more creative jobs, while helping us reduce production time. We know it was the right choice for our business.” Looking ahead, creart plans to bring more previously outsourced work in-house and develop further applications using the PC2120’s extended colour gamut and speciality toners.
