Ten editions of 'Women4Women', Fujifilm's magazine dedicated to the gaze of women

"The Women in Photography Issue" The new issue of Fujifilm's 'Women4Women' magazine

When female photography transforms reality into a story

With the tenth issue of Women4Women magazineFUJIFILM celebrates photography interpreted and experienced by more than 20 women, and one man. People, before being professionals, who usethe camera to describe the world, with its lights and shadows, made up of aspirations, inequalities and emotions with a marked narrative power.

Entitled The Women in Photography, this special issue is a real treatise on contemporary photography, a journey of images and words that offers an empathetic and multidimensional perspective on reality, like the female one, delicate but always punctual.

photograph that heals those who exercise it and those who are its protagonists and that is able to do so only by investigating human nature, in its suffering, but also in its moments of serenity, spontaneity and enthusiasm.

Women4Women is a broad and constantly evolving format, created to enhance the female point of view. In addition to the magazine, the program is divided into events, meetings and initiatives designed to raise public awareness on issues related to the female universe, giving space to the stories, talents and challenges of women, inside and outside the lens.

"When we started this project in 2020, we were looking for a new way of communicating, putting people at the center – their world, their aspirations, their purpose. This tenth issue is dedicated to women (+1 man) engaged in the world of photography. But it would be reductive to talk only about photography: what you will read is a journey into the 'feminine feeling' and how this translates into images," says Luana Porfido, European Head of Corporate Communication and ESG Management at FUJIFILM Europe GmbH.

Among the most intense voices is that of Gabriela Teplická , a Slovak documentary photographer, who for years has been working on the thinnest and often removed border of our experience: death. In her project Moment – The Touch of Death, Teplická accompanies doctors, patients and families on the path of palliative care, with a respectful, intimate and powerful gaze. Her photographs show not only the end of life, but the strength of will, the dignity of farewell, the gratitude of every gesture shared. Her images are an act of awareness and love, capable of restoring humanity to what we often prefer to ignore.

Also courageous is the experience of Emily Reiner, now an ambassador for Fujfilm and a professional British wedding photographer. To those who ask her what job she is most proud of, she has no doubts in answering: her own mental health. From a past as a teacher and vice-principal in which the frenetic pace of everyday life led her to suffer a severe nervous breakdown, to a hobby, photography , which represented her lifeline. Redefining priorities, preferring the quality of moments over the quantification of results: this is how we could summarize the check-list of Emily's success criteria who today puts her health at the center before any other need.

The voice of Samaneh Khosravi, a photographer and visual researcher of German and Iranian origin, also rises free, sharp and independent . At the center of her academic work is Iranand in particular the perception, both personal and external, of women in that land. In underlining how too often the West's representations of the Iranian female world are one-sided, Samaneh instead highlights their stubbornness in helping to shape the future of their country and a strenuous, and unfortunately often stifled, resistance against a traditionally patriarchal society.

Other testimonies are intertwined with the same narrative spirit, such as that of Maite de Lorenzo, photographer and now marketing manager of MyFUJIFILM in the Netherlands, who tells the long journey from the first camera received at the age of twelve, to the Land of Thousand Dances project , an intimate and poetic visual story of the daily life of a Chilean family . Evocative are also the shots of Eliška Oškrdalová Fischerová , a Czech photographer, intent on exploring the feminization of wedding photography , restoring authenticity and emotion to an often stereotyped genre. Aimed at breaking down the barriers of the mainstream is the work of Kristina Varaksina , an English photographer who took 5 long years to become a mother and who from that moment wanted to focus her attention on the paths, lives, aspirations and sometimes disillusioned dreams of people who resort to fertility treatments.

The stories are collected in a fluid structure, with evocative titles such as "Taking Care of Photography", "Perspective and Femininity", "Through the Lens", "The Feminization of Wedding Photography", which convey the variety of looks, approaches and sensibilities present in the issue.

Fujikina Milan 2025: when the gaze meets the public

To underline FUJIFILM's commitment to promoting female talent and storytelling, during FUJIKINA Milan 2025 – an immersive event held on 10 and 11 May at the Torneria Tortona in Milan – the talk "Women4Women: the female gaze on the world", with the participation of internationally renowned photographers Valentina Tamborra and Monica Silva. With two very different, but complementary approaches, the two authors have been able to illuminate what often remains on the margins: forgotten communities, identities to be rebuilt, deep emotions. The packed room and the climate of attention and participation confirmed the value of these moments of discussion.
