In the manufacturing industry, measuring pressure distribution is important. This page introduces two tools, tactile sensor and pressure measurement film.
These tools make it easy to measure pressure distribution or pressure mapping.

1. Tactile sensor overview
1) What are tactile sensors?
Tactile sensors, also known as tactile force sensors, are digital devices for measuring pressure. Aspects of performance such as definition vary between tactile sensors, and the correct type must be selected for each application.
Visualizing the extent and distribution of pressure has applications in research and development, analysis and quality improvement across a range of fields. It is widely used in industries relating to automotives, electronics, paper manufacturing, packaging for food and pharmaceutical products, and ergonomics.
2) Working of tactile sensor
Most pressure tactile sensors work based on one of two main principles, piezoresistance and capacitance. Converting pressure into electrical signals using these methods enables pressure mapping to be performed on a computer or similar device.
3) Types of tactile sensor
Tactile sensors come in a variety of shapes and sizes depending on the application, and the correct type must be selected in advance. The configuration required to achieve the right specifications also varies depending on the situation.
For example, when measuring the grip force and shape of the digits when an object is held in the hand, a suitable dedicated sensor must be found and its use must be mastered. Biometric tactile sensors are a particular type of tactile sensor that convey tactile feedback from robots with human-like hands. In the field of robotics, special sensors are often used by placing them in an array on the part to be measured.
4) Application examples for tactile sensors
Tactile sensors are suitable for measuring pressure dynamically. This includes uses relating to ergonomics, such as golf equipment, bicycle saddles, mattresses and physical examinations (measuring pressure on the soles of the feet, etc.) They are also used for more specialized applications in areas such as nursing care.
2. Pressure measurement film overview
1) What is pressure measurement film?
Pressure measurement film is an affordable and easy-to-use tool that reveals the distribution and magnitude of pressure between two surfaces that contact, fit, or collide. This is a film that can measure pressure. It is now possible to easily check the pressure and pressure distribution that could not be visually observed until now.
2) Working of pressure measurement film
This is a film that contains a layer of small microcapsules. The microcapsules in the color-forming layer are broken by pressure, and the colorless dye is absorbed into the developer, causing a chemical reaction to produce a red color. The microcapsules containing the color-forming material are adjusted to varying sizes and strengths, and is coated uniformly, producing a color density that corresponds to the amount of pressure. The higher the pressure, the darker the color.
3) Types of pressure measurement film
There are two types, the two-sheet type and the mono-sheet type. The two-sheet type is composed of two films of which are respectively coated with color-forming material and color-developing material. This type is used by placing the sides coated with the chemical agents over each other. The mono-sheet type is a film with a single base film with a coating of color-forming material and developer.
4) Example of use of Pressure measurement film
Pressure measurement films are used in a variety of applications. The main uses are:
Automotive and parts industry especially for who manufacture engine gasket, packaging industry for food or pharmaceutical products, printed circuit board industry, multiple ceramic device industry, semiconductor industry.
Furthermore, it is used among ergomocis industry and collaborative robots industy too.
