Fujifilm showcased the Image Processing Systems IS-100 (Introduced as The CCBOXX in the U.S.) and IS-mini at 2013 Cine Gear Expo New York

New software upgrades support import, export and application of color LUTs

October 28, 2013

Featuring groundbreaking color management and class-leading capability, FUJIFILM North America Corporation’s Imaging Division returned to the 2013 Cine Gear Expo New York to present its highly popular IS-mini LUT box and monitor calibration device, along with the sophisticated IS-100 on-set look creation system. The show was held at The Metropolitan Pavilion, New York City, September 27-28, 2013 and was attended by about 1,000 industry professionals, rental houses and equipment dealers.

Fujifilm staff experts Michael Bulbenko and Michael Lafuente demonstrated several new features for the Image Processing System product line. A new upgrade to the IS Mini Manager software, that runs on both Windows and Apple computer platforms, now allows the import and application of color LUTs created by both Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve and Filmlight Truelight color correction systems. For the IS-100, they demonstrated new support for LUT exports to Colorfront On-Set Dailies and Express Dailies systems, in addition to the long list of other supported formats. Both of these new features enhance and broaden the appeal of the Fujifilm Image Processing System for cinematography and post-production.

Interest in both IS products was quite high with many praising the intuitive and easy to operate tablet interface for the IS-100. A standout application that also drew much interest from many broadcasters attending the show, was the ability to control the image of many cameras at once in live event situations (such as concerts or sports). This is achieved by way of the IS-100 being able to communicate to dozens of IS-mini’s by way of a network, with individual cameras connected to each IS-mini, and the adjusted HD-SDI or HDMI output being sent directly to the switcher in the control booth.

The IS-mini is a small hardware device that takes incoming HD-SDI digital camera moving picture video and converts the color information via two sets of 1D LUTs and 3D LUTs to outputs of both HS-SDI and HDMI connections – all in record time while still delivering high quality imaging. The IS-mini is an extension of the technologies first introduced through the IS-100, and is designed to work with the IS-100 by extending the abilities to have accurately profiled production monitors and remote color adjustment of live digital images during movie and television productions. Together, they form a powerful on-set color management system.

By use of a new dedicated software application, the IS-mini can also operate independently of the IS-100 to create monitor calibrations and apply them to almost any kind of production monitor. Because of the built-in Ethernet connection, multiple IS-mini units can be assembled into a powerful array for multi-monitor/multi-camera image control and very precise color matching.
