Bangkok, 31 March 2025 — FUJIFILM Thailand advances its comprehensive breast cancer screening initiative to promote better health among Thai people. The company recently provided free screenings for 50 women at Uthaithani Hospital in collaboration with Sima Corporate. The initiative aims to support hospitals in remote areas by providing essential screenings to underserved communities. It focuses on early detection and improves the chance of detecting abnormalities at an early stage by combining mammography and ultrasound technology.
Breast cancer remains a concerning threat to Thai women. The National Cancer Institute of Thailand reports that each year, there are approximately 140,000 new cancer cases in Thailand with about 83,000 deaths. Breast cancer is the most common type among Thai women, accounting for 34.2% of all cancer patients. Many women still cannot access breast cancer screening due to various reasons, including fear of pain during the examination, lack of understanding about the necessity of breast screening, and resource limitations in remote areas. These factors cause many to miss the opportunity to detect abnormalities at an early stage, when treatment is most effective.
Combined mammography and ultrasound screening increases diagnostic accuracy. Since breast cancer is a leading cause of death among women. According to Thailand’s National Cancer Institute, annual screenings are recommended for women aged 40 and above. Early-stage treatment yields much better outcomes, as research indicates that timely treatment upon finding a tumor under 2 centimeters ensures a survival rate of around 95-99 percent.
Fujifilm continues its breast cancer screening initiative using mammography and ultrasound in partnership with Sima Corporate. This time, the screening was held at Uthaithani Hospital, a 350-bed general hospital offering comprehensive medical services for cancer care.
Chaninya Patanasakpinyo, MD., Director of Uthaithani Hospital, shared, “Uthaithani Hospital is advancing breast cancer screening through mammogram and ultrasound technologies that detect abnormalities earlier than manual exams.
Supattanavadee Poosri, MD., Radiologist at Uthaithani Hospital, discussed why comprehensive screening is important, stating, “Most patients come for examination only after finding a lump, when the disease has often progressed significantly. Mammography is an essential tool for detecting breast cancer in its early stages, especially for finding calcifications—early warning signs that appear before lumps can be felt.”
As breast cancer screening through both mammogram and ultrasound is recommended for more effective detection, Fujifilm offers the comprehensive women's health solution 'INNOMUSE'. This innovative approach combines two essential screening technologies: the AMULET Innovality digital mammogram system with its Comfort Comp function designed to minimize patient discomfort during examination, and the Arietta 65 ultrasound that can effectively detect abnormalities even in dense breast tissue.
Mr. Khumrob Khumthienthong, Managing Director, Sima Corporate, said, “Our ongoing collaboration with FUJIFILM brings mammogram and ultrasound systems to provincial hospitals, enabling early breast cancer detection and timely treatment for underserved communities. We aim to expand the implementation of screening devices in more hospitals across Thailand to promote more accessible healthcare.”
Mr. So Maruo, Managing Director, FUJIFILM Thailand Ltd. “At FUJIFILM Thailand, we're committed to enhancing lives through healthcare innovation. While Thailand is a medical hub in ASEAN, healthcare access remains uneven. Our breast cancer screening initiative, in partnership with Sima Corporate and local hospitals, and we are ensuring more women receive timely, accurate diagnoses. Looking ahead, FUJIFILM Thailand will expand this initiative through strengthened collaborations with public health institutions across the country.
