Initiatives to bring
the best out of diverse employees

At FUJIFILM Business Innovation, we believe that to increase our competitiveness as a company it is essential that we leverage the strengths, characteristics and values of diverse individuals.
We are committed to developing infrastructure and fostering a workplace climate, aiming to enable all of our diverse employees to participate actively.

As a basic initiative, we are proactively building an environment that permits flexible work styles so that every employee can bring the best out of themselves, improve their productivity, and accomplish the best possible results.

1-1. Work styles that are free of location constraints and the development of systems and an environment that supports these work styles

We have built an environment where employees can choose a place to work depending on the purpose, including a remote work program that is available for all employees, a work from home program, the provision of satellite offices, and the implementation of activity-based working (ABW).*1 We are also building an environment where both general office employees and managers can feel free to take paid leave. One example is the introduction of days when employees are encouraged to take paid leave.

Due to the combination of the wide range options like the above which enable flexible work styles in a climate that facilitates the utilization of the above systems, the percentage of women in managerial positions has been increasing year by year, with the most recent figure being 8.8% in FUJIFILM Business Innovation (fiscal 2021). Further, we will accelerate initiatives to achieve 15% in Japan and 30% globally by fiscal 2030.

  • *1ABW: A work style in which people choose the place to work depending on the content of their job.

1-2. Proactive employment of people with disabilities and expansion of opportunities for them to actively participate.

As a diversity initiative in Japan, the Fujifilm Group has continued to achieve a percentage of employees that are people with disabilities above the statutory level since fiscal 2016. We aim to maintain a percentage that is higher than the statutory level. Through cooperation within the Fujifilm Group, we have been proactively developing jobs to employ more of these employees. We have also been proactively building an environment that enables people with disabilities to excel, including the introduction of UDTalk and sign language interpretation. As a result, the percentage of FUJIFILM Business Innovation employees with disabilities was 2.48% in June 2022, compared with the Japanese statutory employment rate of 2.3%. We will continue working to build a workplace environment that is comfortable for all people, regardless of presence or absence of disabilities.

From a life stage perspective, we have established various systems for supporting employees in the event of pregnancy, childcare, nursing care, and others. They include birth support leave (for fertility treatment), childcare/nursing care leave, hourly paid leave, and shorter working hours. We have also introduced many support measures, such as a system that permits resigned employees to join the company again and one that permits employees to accompany their transferred spouses without leaving the company. In addition to establishing systems, understanding people in the workplace and developing a workplace atmosphere that facilitates the utilization of the systems are important to support employees balancing work and their family lives. Examples of our initiatives for these purposes include the provision of guidelines for managers on supporting employees balancing their work and family lives as well as various training programs for managers. Thus, we have been committed to promoting the understanding of managers, having made progress in the development of an environment where employees can balance work and their family lives regardless of gender. In fiscal 2021, the percentage of female employees that took childcare leave was 100%. Regarding childcare leave taken by male employees, 47.3% percent of male FUJIFILM Business Innovation employees had spouses who gave birth to a child, and the average number of childcare leave days was 102, compared to the national corporate average of 12.6% and the average number of days being less than 5 days, or 28.3% of the available leave.

At the Fujifilm Group, in our Corporate Philosophy we pledged to "provide improved health protection in society" and aim to "help enhance the quality of life of people worldwide." The fundamental prerequisite for achieving this philosophy is that every employee enjoys working in good physical and mental health.
To reinforce the foundation for the above, the Fujifilm Group positions the promotion of employee wellness as an important management issue and established the Fujifilm Group Employee Wellness Declaration in 2019. We have been engaged in many group-wide activities based on the five priority management items related to promotion of employee wellness (lifestyle disease prevention, cancer prevention and treatment, anti-smoking awareness, mental health initiatives, and appropriate working hours) and the annual targets set by each Group company.
As a result, FUJIFILM Holdings (FUJIFILM Corporation and FUJIFILM Business Innovation) was selected in the Health and Productivity Stock Selection jointly run by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Tokyo Stock Exchange for two consecutive years, 2021 and 2022 in Japan.

3-1. Examples of initiatives promoting employee wellness

For example, we encourage the Seven Wellness-promoting Actions, which are actions to be taken by every employee to adopt a healthy lifestyle, which are shown in an easy-to-understand manner. We have also included a ban on smoking during work hours in our rules of employment, closed smoking areas on the company's premises, and hold the Arukatsu walk event, in which companies and teams of employees enjoy competing with each other over the total number of steps, with a ranking published, as if they were playing a game. We are also committed to raising health awareness internally. We are proactive in expanding activities for this purpose, including seminars given by active physicians, which are aimed at promoting understanding of cancers and raising awareness of the importance of health checkups, as well as training on line-care and one on self-care for all employees, which are given by industrial physicians and counsellors, as mental health measures.

3-2. Systems for providing health support for employees based on state-of-the-art medical equipment

At the Fujifilm Group, we have been engaged in occupational health activities and community healthcare activities at the Fujifilm Health Management Center (Minami-Ashigara City, Kanagawa Prefecture), which was established in 1973. Employees who so desire can receive blood tests and other tests, get prescriptions for therapeutic medicines, be vaccinated, and receive emergency care. In addition, medical care is provided to people who need follow-up, and internal facilities located close to them are available for use as healthcare facilities. The Center also has counsellors who work together with medical staff to provide meticulous mental health care services.
In addition, the Fujifilm Nishi-Azabu Medical Center (Minato Ward, Tokyo) has been providing high-precision testing services by using endoscopic systems incorporating the Fujifilm Group's advanced technologies. Screening tests are conducted using ultrathin endoscopes, which feature less discomfort. The Fujifilm Nishi-Azabu Medical Center is committed to the early detection of cancers and cancer prevention.
Further, in April 2022, Fujifilm Mediterrace Yokohama (Minatomirai, Nishi Ward, Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture) newly opened as a health checkup center for employees in the Tokyo Metropolitan area. This facility features medical IT systems using AI technologies, in addition to medical equipment including the latest endoscope and mammography systems from the Fujifilm Group. We have thus built an excellent environment for the promotion of employee wellness.
We will continue to proactively provide health support for employees, believing that creation of an environment where employees can work in good physical and mental health will lead to the sustainable growth of the company.
