As Singapore celebrates its 60th birthday with the theme “Building Our Singapore Together”, it’s a fitting moment to reflect on how we can build a future that is innovative and inclusive.
While artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping industries, the people behind these technologies matter just as much. Yet in Singapore’s AI landscape, women remain underrepresented:
- A recent Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) study shows that women make up 34-40% of Southeast Asia’s tech sector, but only 20-30% in technical roles, and just 8% in senior leadership roles
Why does this matter? Because diverse voices shape better outcomes. When the teams building tomorrow’s tools don’t reflect the society they serve, we risk designing systems that miss the mark.
Barriers range from persistent gender stereotypes to the lack of visible female role models in tech leadership. This results in fewer young women envisioning themselves in AI-related careers, a gap that can result in missed opportunity.
Across the Fujifilm Group, we’re committed to changing this narrative. Globally, initiatives like Girls’ Day in Europe and our Women4Women magazine highlight inspiring women in tech. In Asia, we recognize female changemakers on International Women’s Day, helping to make the invisible, visible. Whether it's highlighting more role models in the industry or profiling women in different career roles, we constantly remind them that they are fully capable of pursuing careers in tech.
Diversity is not just a people goal — it’s a business priority that shapes our AI solutions. We are actively investing in AI solutions that help organizations work smarter, as we believe these solutions are stronger when shaped by diverse perspectives. From smarter data capture and automated workflows to AI-powered image analysis for disaster response in Japan, and from optimizing multifunction printer usage to drawing on Fujifilm’s medical AI expertise to enhance our offerings.
We believe that by incorporating AI and other cutting-edge technologies, we will dramatically expand the value we provide to customers and increase our competitiveness.
