Exploring Effective Use of Multifunction Printing Devices under Constraints

P Corporation had already used 10 multifunction printers (MFPs) from FUJIFILM Business Innovation, but primarily usage is for standalone printing functions. When it came time to replace the MFPs, the IT team sought ways to utilize them more effectively and consulted FUJIFILM Business Innovation for advice. However, due to restrictions from the headquarters’ IT department, they were unable to install unique servers in the local area or make changes to the current network environment.
To maximize the use of the MFPs and create an efficient work environment despite these constraints, FUJIFILM Business Innovation proposed the use of Server-less On-Demand Print.

Proposing Improved Operational Efficiency with Server-less On-Demand Print, Eliminating the Need for Server Installation

FUJIFILM Business Innovation installed Server-less On-Demand Print simultaneously with the replacement of MFPs.
This solution temporarily holds print jobs sent by users within the devices. Users can then release the print job from the operational panel of any connected device, which will then print the job. This feature does not require the installation of a server, as each MFP is connected via a network. As a result, users can print from any connected device, regardless of where the print job was sent. Even if the MFP to which the job was sent is in use, the job can be released and printed from another device. By connecting the MFPs without the need for a server, this solution enables more efficient use of the devices without significantly altering the existing network environment.

Contributing to Not Only Operational Efficiency and Cost Reduction but Also Enhanced Security

With the implementation of Server-less On-Demand Print, users could now print from any device at any time, which led to a reassessment of the previously contracted devices. As a result, the number of devices was consolidated from 10 to 6, enabling more efficient operations and significant cost savings for the customer. In addition, Server-less On-Demand Print temporarily holds print jobs within the device, requiring the user to release the job for it to be printed. This prevented uncollected printouts, which could otherwise lead to information leakages, and ensured that documents would only print when the user was present to collect them. Thus, this solution not only optimized the use of MFPs but also strengthened Information security for the customer.
