In October Fujifilm is proud to join the global cancer care community to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women across Europe, turning the lives of hundreds of thousands upside down.1 While most cases of breast cancer do occur in women, 0.5-1% of cases also occur in men.2 Around one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime,3 but when detected early, the chances of survival are high - with a five-year survival rate of 85% or more4.
Thanks to continued progress in research and care, outcomes for breast cancer are improving, but there is still more we can do. Earlier detection saves lives, yet some women still face emotional, practical or systemic barriers to screening. By working together to raise awareness, reduce stigma and improve access, we can help ensure that more women receive timely diagnoses and the care they need to live well.
Fujifilm is committed to supporting the global effort to reduce the burden of breast cancer. From early awareness to survivorship, we stand with patients, families, and healthcare professionals every step of the way. Across our portfolio of innovative technology we are focused on improving access, removing barriers, and empowering communities with knowledge and care that can change lives.
In many parts of the world, breast cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death among women. Almost ten percent of women in the EU will develop breast cancer before the age of 745. Timely access to screening and diagnosis can make the difference between life and loss, yet millions of women still struggle to get the care they need.
Some women delay screening because they are afraid, others avoid it because of stigma or discomfort. In many regions, outdated systems or geographical distance make it difficult for women to attend regular check-ups. Fujifilm is committed to closing these gaps by supporting education, promoting awareness, and helping healthcare systems bring quality care closer to the people who need it most.
At Fujifilm, we listen to communities and healthcare providers to better understand the challenges women face – and what prevents them from seeking potentially life-saving screening. We are committed to breaking down the practical, emotional, and systemic barriers that prevent too many women from accessing timely care. With earlier diagnosis, better tools and greater awareness, we can change the trajectory for millions. Through collaboration and action, we are working to ensure that no one is left behind in the fight against breast cancer.
A breast cancer diagnosis affects more than the body. It can reshape every part of a woman’s life, turning familiar routines, plans, and relationships upside down. At Fujifilm, we recognise the emotional and psychological weight of the moment. That is why we believe screening should be a caring experience that gives patients confidence and comfort. We also know that a positive screening experience improves the likelihood that women will return for future check-ups and encourage others to do the same. By supporting education and removing fear, we can help more women take that crucial step toward early detection and better outcomes.
Reducing deaths from breast cancer is a shared responsibility. Everyone has a role to play in making screening more accessible, improving awareness, and supporting those who are diagnosed. Fujifilm is proud to stand alongside clinicians, patients, policymakers, and advocates to help reduce the global burden of breast cancer.
Our cutting-edge technologies like breast tomosynthesis, AI-assisted imaging, and ultrasound innovations such as Real-time Tissue Elastography (RTE) and Detective Flow Imaging (DFI) offer advanced tools to allow clinicians to provide early, accurate diagnosis - even in complex cases such as patients with dense breast tissue.
Together, we share the goal that every woman, everywhere, has the best possible chance of survival. Because no one should have their world turned upside down by a disease that can be caught and treated early.
Fujifilm is proud to be a Visionary Partner to World Cancer Day 2025-2027, a global initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), in 2024 and will continue the partnership as a “Visionary Partner” from 2025 to 2027. At the heart of our partnership with UICC for 2025 is the celebration of personal stories from individuals affected by cancer. United by unique stories of resilience and hope, we support communities, caregivers, and healthcare professionals while advancing our mission to make cancer prevention, detection, and treatment accessible to all. Fujifilm and the UICC are committed to reducing the global cancer burden and improving patient outcomes through collaboration and innovation.
