Eight Lives, One Message: New London Exhibition Explores Life Beyond Cancer

[London, UK, January 30th] A new portrait photography exhibition opening today in Covent Garden offers a thought-provoking insight into the lives of eight people in their 20s, 30s and 40s navigating the previously unseen realities of life alongside cancer.

Titled Are You Better Yet?, the exhibition features the work of award-winning portrait photographer Michael Leckie and has been co-curated by the cancer charity Trekstock Cancer Support and Fujifilm.
By turning the lens onto the struggles and triumphs of eight people living with and beyond cancer, the portraits are displayed alongside their personal artefacts, showcasing the journey from diagnosis to redefining the narrative of ‘recovery’, and reinforcing the message that for many, cancer does not end when treatment does.
One of the stories featured at this exhibition is that of Natalie Woodward, 43, a Charity Worker and Dancer living in London, who underwent life-changing surgery to treat her stage 4 bowel cancer. Despite being told by doctors she might never walk again, she is now able to dance, whilst still living with the long-term effects of her treatmentshe was able to access through Trekstock and is living proof of the critical role of ongoing, holistic support in thriving post-cancer treatment.

Sophie Epstone MBE, CEO and Founder of Trekstock Cancer Support, said:
“For people in their 20s, 30s and 40s, life after cancer can be marked by ongoing physical, emotional and psychological challenges. Many report feeling lost, unsupported and isolated once treatment ends, at a point when those around them expect life to return to “normal”. In reality, many are dealing with long-term side effects, anxiety, and a huge sense of uncertainty. Are You Better Yet? exists to challenge that narrative and make sure young people feel seen, understood and supported beyond treatment.”

Through their three-year partnership, Fujifilm is dedicated to supporting Trekstock in reaching all people receiving a cancer diagnosis in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. Drawing on its rich heritage in photography alongside its expertise as a healthcare solutions provider, Fujifilm leverages innovative technologies to enhance diagnostic capabilities and improve support services within UK health systems.

Allan Elborn, Managing Director, Fujifilm Healthcare UK, said:
“At Fujifilm, with a 30-year history in diagnostic imaging, we know early detection saves lives - but we also believe healthcare doesn’t end at diagnosis or treatment. A longer life shouldn’t mean an unsupported life, and this exhibition shines a light on the human side of cancer - the lived experiences that often go unseen. We’re proud to partner with Trekstock to amplify these voices at such a critical moment for cancer policy in the UK.”

Michael Leckie, photographer quote:
“Being part of this project and meeting the Trekstock community was incredibly inspiring; every interaction added meaning to the images. I looked to find a little something in everyone who was photographed and built on that. We posed, we had fun and danced through the day. It was definitely a cathartic experience for some. The Trekstock community reminded me how much strength, openness, and humanity can live within a single person, and as a group it's totally resolute.”
