Sheffield Hallam University has become the latest academic institution to install Fujifilm solutions to support students as they qualify in radiology related studies. With teaching systems at the University of Derby, the Welsh Academy near Cardiff, the Norwich Radiology Academy and Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, Fujifilm is proud to be helping to educate and inspire the next generations of radiographers and radiologists across the UK.
“The newly installed Fujifilm equipment at Sheffield Hallam University provides our students with a practical and safe space to bridge the gap between theory and clinical practice” said Janine Timms, Technical Manager: Clinical Simulation at Sheffield Hallam University. “Our students have a unique opportunity to work through complex clinical scenarios in a realistic clinical setting. The FDR Smart X digital x-ray suite and FDR Go PLUS mobile units enable our students to work collaboratively across professions, discuss and share placement experiences and build their confidence as they practice and learn essential radiographic techniques.”
Liz Shute, Course Leader in BSc Diagnostic Radiography, said “When we were looking to update our x-ray kit, the versatility, equipment design and image quality were key factors for us in this University setting. We have found the FDR Smart X digital x-ray suite to be an excellent system for teaching purposes, being easy to use and intuitive. The ergonomics of the tube head, table and FDR D-EVO II detectors is excellent, and the addition of a larger repeater screen above the terminal is helping us to deliver training to larger groups. Whilst most of our work is done on phantoms we have noticed improved image quality on a much lower dose than before. The FDR Go PLUS mobile x-ray unit is easy to manoeuvre through doorways in lifts and the main interface is a pleasure to use.
“We are able to simulate clinical scenarios within a radiology, ward and theatre settings. The latest Fujifilm SYNAPSE® 5 PACS software links to all of our equipment, mirroring the clinical environment. The whole Fujifilm solution is really well integrated and we can personalise our set up to our situation - the equipment offers excellent ergonomics and is user friendly, making the learning experience more engaging, more fun and more memorable for both our students and staff.”
