Society of Camera Operators, with Support from Fujifilm, to Unveil Photography Exhibit at 2024 SOC Awards

“Delivering THE Image: Operators and Crew Answering the Challenge” Features Behind-The-Scenes Still Photographs by Past Lifetime Achievement Award Honorees

LOS ANGELES and VALHALLA, N.Y. — The Society of Camera Operators (SOC) is thrilled to announce the premiere of its photography exhibition, Delivering THE Image: Operators and Crew Answering the Challenge. This unique showcase will take center stage at the upcoming SOC Awards Show on February 24, 2024 at the Directors Guild of America, Hollywood, California providing an exclusive opportunity for attendees to personally view and acquire one-of-a-kind works by renowned photographers and past SOC Lifetime Achievement Award Honorees: Phillip V. Caruso, Peter Iovino, Bruce McBroom, and JoJo Whilden.

This groundbreaking exhibition, made possible in part through the generous support of FUJIFILM North America Corporation (Fujifilm), will feature behind-the-scenes photographs capturing the essence of the film industry's unsung heroes. Concepted and developed in collaboration with Fujifilm, the collection aims to elevate the artistry of still photography and celebrate iconic imagery that defines the world of entertainment. All photographic works shown at the exhibition will be printed on FUJIFILM Fujicolor Crystal Archive Digital Paper Type DPII, designed to yield high image quality digital prints showcasing accurate color reproduction and whites, plus excellent highlight detail.

"We are honored to partner with Fujifilm to bring this extraordinary exhibition to life," said Matthew Moriarty, president of the SOC. "These captivating works not only showcase the very dedication and skill we honor each year at the SOC Awards, but also provide a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to own a piece of cinematic history."

The exhibition is especially significant as it aligns with the SOC's mission to honor camera operators and crew who have risen to the challenges posed by the film industry's hardships in 2023. The selected works are themed around the SOC Awards, creating a visual narrative that pays tribute to the resilience and creativity of those who make cinematic magic happen. As a highlight of the evening, the framed, signed photographic works shown at the exhibition will be sold to the highest bidder during the SOC Awards through a silent auction, with proceeds benefiting the SOC’s support of The Vision Center, Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

Fujifilm’s vice president of Electronic Imaging & Optical Devices Divisions, Victor Ha, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, "Fujifilm is honored to champion this initiative which celebrates the compelling art of visual storytelling and underscores Fujifilm’s commitment to supporting camera operators. While Fujifilm has built a global photography brand, it started as a film company in 1934 and those deep roots continue to flourish 90 years later. The SOC shares that duality in its recognition of the value afforded to productions not only by the contributions of camera operators and technicians, but also by on-set photographers."
