RATINGEN, GERMANY, 15, September 2026– FUJIFILM Healthcare Europe is proud to announce the launch of the FVet® FUJI DRI-CHEM® SLIDE v-UPC, an innovative diagnostic tool designed for rapid on-site measurement of the Urine Protein/Creatinine Ratio (UP/C) in dogs and cats. This innovative slide enables veterinary hospitals to perform quantitative UP/C testing, supporting early detection and monitoring of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in companion animals.
This is the first in a series of releases as part of the ‘Let’s Lift the Clouds’ initiative by the FUJIFILM Healthcare Europe Veterinary Business team.
About FVet® FUJI DRI-CHEM® SLIDE v-UPC
Fujifilm’s FUJI DRI-CHEM® SLIDE v-UPC measures urine protein and creatinine levels. Compatible with FUJI DRI-CHEM® analysers (FDC4000, NX500, NX600, NX700), it supports UPC calculation on NX600V and NX700V models with updated software. The slide offers a wide range suitable for detecting high creatinine levels, with a dedicated diluent (v-DL) ensuring precise measurements.
Why UP/C Testing Matters for Dogs and Cats1,3,4
Persistent proteinuria, primarily caused by loss of selective glomerular filtration or impaired tubular reabsorption, is a critical marker of CKD in dogs and cats. Albumin is the predominant protein lost in urine during renal disease. Monitoring proteinuria through UP/C testing allows veterinarians to identify CKD early and implement treatments that can slow disease progression.
Clinical Findings2,3,4:
- In cats, even mild proteinuria (UP/C > 0.4) predicts poorer survival independent of age and serum creatinine.
- In dogs, a UP/C > 1.0 triples the risk of uremic crises and mortality, with risk increasing 1.5 times for every 1-unit increase in UP/C.
- Persistent proteinuria (≥ 3 times, ≥ 2 weeks apart) strongly suggests CKD presence and warrants clinical attention.

Standardised urine collection, centrifugation, and handling protocols are essential for reliable UP/C results. The FUJI DRI-CHEM® SLIDE v-UPC supports these protocols by enabling rapid, on-site testing that complements established veterinary guidelines.
