SYDNEY, 16 JUNE 2026: Today, Fujifilm's annual GFX Challenge Grant Award Program returns for its sixth year, continuing its mission to support photographers and content creators across Australia and New Zealand to bring their creative aspirations to life.

First launched five years ago, the annual challenge equips emerging creative talent with the funding, mentorship and equipment needed to create world-class photography and video projects. At a time when just 17% of Australian content creators are currently earning income from their work, according to the 2026 Fujifilm Forecast Trends Report, the program provides a unique opportunity for aspiring visual storytellers to take the next step in their creative journey.

This year, the grant will offer close to AUD$145,000 (USD$100,000), with five global winners each receiving AUD$15,000 (USD$10,000), and 10 regional winners awarded more than AUD$7,000 (USD$5,000) each.

In addition to the grant, winners will have access to world-class mentorship from Fujifilm experts and the latest GFX cameras and lenses, helping them bring their projects to life in a supported environment. To provide a global spotlight on their work, all winning projects will be featured on fujifilm-x.com.

Since winning the Regional Grant Award in 2022, photographer Tania Malkin has gone on to work with Fujifilm across multiple projects, further developing her creative expression and demonstrating the opportunities that can arise from the global challenge.

Tania Malkin, photographer and 2022 winner of the Regional Grant Award, said:

"Receiving the Fujifilm GFX Challenge grant enabled me to utilise exceptional equipment for my creative project, 'Ebb and Flow' and connected me with the incredible Fujifilm team while also providing the financial support needed to bring the project to life. Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to turn your creative idea into reality."

Andrew Hall, FUJIFILM Australia X-Photographer and local judge for this year's GFX Challenge, said:

"As a photographer, I tend to lean towards the storytelling aspect of a project. A subject that is emotive, uplifting or challenges the way we see the world will always resonate.”

"Technical excellence is also important, however, all successful applicants will receive mentoring support from Fujifilm throughout the program. We invite photographers and videographers of all experience levels to apply.”

"Ultimately, we're looking for strong ideas, a clear vision and projects that have the potential to create meaningful and compelling visual stories."

Shaun Mah, General Manager, Electronic Imaging & Optical Devices Division at FUJIFILM Australia, added:

"For six years, Fujifilm's GFX Challenge has helped emerging photographers and filmmakers transform ideas into meaningful creative projects. We're proud to continue supporting the next generation of visual storytellers with the funding, mentorship and tools they need to bring ambitious concepts to life.”

“Each year we're inspired by the originality, passion and creativity of the submissions, and we look forward to seeing what this year's applicants create."

Entries for the GFX Challenge 2026 are open to Australian photography enthusiasts from today until 17 August 2026, via the Fujifilm House of Photography website.
