SYDNEY, 11 SEPTEMBER, 2025 – FUJIFILM Australia Pty Ltd announces the release of the “FUJIFILM GFX ETERNA 55” (GFX ETERNA 55) worldwide in October.
The “GFX ETERNA 55” features a large format sensor*1 with its diagonal length at approximately 55mm, “GFX 102MP CMOS II HS”, which is approximately 1.7 times larger than a 35mm sensor. The high-speed image processing engine “X-Processor 5” enables filmmakers to capture rich, true-to-life visuals with enhanced flexibility in post-production. The “GFX ETERNA 55” delivers rich tonal expression with high image quality and enables more diverse visual expression through our colour reproduction technology cultivated over more than 90 years since Fujifilm’s founding.
The “GFX ETERNA 55” features a large-format sensor measuring 43.8mm wide by 32.9mm high, making it the world’s tallest large-format sensor*2 designed for filmmaking cameras. This sensor provides an image circle*3 that surpasses full frame and Super 35mm formats on production sites. As a result, filmmakers can take full advantage of the diagonal approximately 55mm large format sensor with the 4:3 Open Gate “GF format”, as well as choose from five cinema formats: “Premista”, “35mm”, “ANAMORPHIC(35mm)”, and “Super35”. By attaching an included mount adapter such as the “PL Mount Adapter G,” the range of compatible lenses expands, supporting filmmakers in realising their creative vision and exploring diverse visual expressions.
Additionally, the camera features Fujifilm’s unique “Film Simulation,” highly praised in the X and GFX Series camera, which allows users to easily achieve a variety of colour tones, much like changing photographic films. Filmmakers can choose their preferred film simulation mode from the 20 available options for their creative projects. The ETERNA series is a cinema colour negative film designed to digitally reproduce the beloved cinematic look favoured by legendary cinematographers active on Hollywood’s frontlines. The camera can also load up to 16 different LUTs (Look Up Tables), which define colour information for footage. This enables consistent colour management from shooting through to post-production, providing an efficient workflow for filmmakers.
The “GFX ETERNA 55” delivers rich tonal and true-to-life image quality unique to a large format sensor, bringing new value to filmmaking across various genres such as movies, documentaries, commercials, and music videos. Its abundant image data also offers high editing resilience, supporting demanding production workflows.

1. Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55 Product Features
Innovative image expression enabled by a 44 x 33 large-format sensor
- Equipped with a 102-megapixel large format sensor, the “GFX 102MP CMOS II HS”. In addition to “GF” using G mount lenses, attaching the included “PL Mount Adapter G” allows support for five cinema formats: “Premista”, “35mm”, “ANAMORPHIC(35mm)”, and “Super35”, enabling diverse visual expressions through the use of a wide variety of lenses. It also supports shooting in a 4:3 open gate format at up to 48 fps, fully leveraging the large image circle sized 43.8mm wide, 32.9mm high, and 54.8mm diagonal.
- The world’s first electronically variable ND filter*4 compatible with large-format sensors is equipped, which achieves precise control, allowing seamless density adjustment from ND0.6 to ND2.1 in 0.015-stop increments during video recording.
- Features a new optical low-pass filter optimised for its large format sensor, adopting a four-point separation method to reduce moiré and false colours.
- Incorporates “DUAL BASE ISO” with two base sensitivities, ISO 800 and ISO 3200. Under extreme severe lighting conditions—whether very bright or very dark—the camera automatically switches base ISO to capture clear images with reduced noise.
*4 As of 11 September, 2025. Among digital cameras equipped with an image sensor measuring 54.8mm diagonally (43.8 × 32. high) and having approximately 1.7 times the area of a 35mm full-frame sensor. (According to Fujifilm Corporation research).
F-Log and Film Simulation 3D-LUTs supporting shooting to editing
- The GFX ETERNA 55 features “F-Log2” and “F-Log2 C” with dynamic range of 14+ stops. These allow capturing rich image tonality that takes full advantage of the large format sensor, providing greater flexibility in post-production.
- The GFX ETERNA 55 includes 20 types of “Film Simulation” to enable diverse visual styles. Additionally, there are 10 Film Simulation conversion 3D-LUTs (compliant with ITU-R BT.709) for precise colour and tone adjustment of footage shot in Log (F-Log2/F-Log2 C). Along with the “ETERNA” and “ETERNA BREACHBYPASS” LUTs announced at launch, users can download a total of 10 3D-LUTs — including “PROVIA/Standard,” “Velvia,” and “ACROS”— from the web for use.
- Up to 16 different 3D-LUTs, including Film Simulation LUTs, can be stored in the GFX ETERNA 55, enabling shooting while previewing the desired look.
Workflow solutions supporting various codecs and improved efficiency
- The GFX ETERNA 55 supports three Apple ProRes*5 codecs, i.e. Apple ProRes 422 HQ, Apple ProRes 422 and Apple ProRes 422 LT. When shooting in Apple ProRes, the camera can use proxy video recording such as Apple ProRes 422 Proxy. Supporting a total of five codecs, it reduces video editing workload to streamline the overall workflow from filming to post-production.
- The GFX ETERNA 55 can output 4:2:2 10bit uncompressed RAW data and up to 8K/30P 12-bit video in RAW data via HDMI.
- The camera supports the cloud service “Frame.io Camera to Cloud” so that Apple ProRes Proxy files and a variety of other video files can be uploaded directly to Frame.io. Video files can be instantly shared with editing teams located far from the shooting site, greatly enhancing the workflow efficiency from shooting to editing.

Compact and lightweight body for functionality and operability
- To support small crews and solo shooting, the body weight has been reduced to approximately 2.0 kg. Additionally, 3-inch side monitors have been placed on both sides to allow multiple users to simultaneously adjust and check camera settings.
- The front of the camera and the included handle feature a multi-function dial that controls the focus, zoom, and iris of FUJINON GF lenses. When the dial is set to “ND,” it allows fine adjustment of the electronically variable ND filter’s density.
- A bright 5-inch external LCD monitor with a panel up to 2000 nits. It clearly displays footage even when shooting outdoors in bright sunlight. The touch-enabled LCD monitor features multiple adjustable angles, allowing flexible positioning to suit various shooting environments and support comfortable filming.
- The GFX ETERNA 55 body is equipped with a battery box that holds a high-capacity NP-W235 battery. This allows for up to 30 minutes of shooting without an external battery. Additionally, when replacing an external battery, power is supplied from the NP-W235 battery, enabling “hot swap”*6 functionality that allows an external battery change without restarting the camera.
- The camera is equipped with dual card slots supporting CFExpress™ Type B*7 and SD cards. By using high-speed CFexpress™ Type B cards, the GFX ETERNA 55 supports recording various video formats and bitrates during shooting.*8
