FUJIFILM Business Innovation Announces results of RE:ON LIGHT Design Competition

Unleashing creativity of young designers and reshaping Hong Kong’s iconic neon signs

HONG KONG, May 24, 2022 – FUJIFILM Business Innovation Hong Kong Limited today announces winners of the first RE:ON LIGHT Design Competition. Organized by FUJIFILM Business Innovation Hong Kong Limited, the competition was successfully held in 2021 to engage students from local tertiary institutions (including degree and non-degree programs) with the opportunity to unleash their creativity and facilitate exchange of ideas. Utilizing FUJIFILM Business Innovation's latest Revoria™ Press PC1120, a powerful six-color print engine, participants have been able to print their design works that showcase Hong Kong's iconic neon signs and vibrant street scenes with leading-edge printing technology. 

With staunch support from the Hong Kong Design Institute and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the competition received overwhelmingly positive responses from the students. All the entries were screened by a judging panel consisting of six professionals, including  Mr. Keith Tam, Head of Department, Head of Communication Design, Hong Kong Design Institute; Ms. Cherine Wong, Senior Lecturer (Acting), Department of Communication Design, Hong Kong Design Institute;  Mr. Edmund Chan, Instructor, School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Mr. Clive Ng, Teaching Fellow, School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Mr. Alan Chan, Director, Marketing & Supply Chain Management, FUJIFILM Business Innovation Hong Kong Limited and Mr. Raphael Wong, Art Director, FUJIFILM Business Innovation Hong Kong Limited. The judging criteria include originality, creative expression, concept application, application of special colors (based on the exclusive colors of FUJIFILM Business Innovation including gold, silver, clear, white and neon pink) and live presentation. After a stringent selection process, five finalists and one Grand Prize Winner, as well as one People’s Choice Award have been selected with details as follows: 


The Grand Prize Winner goes to Miss Kwok Chui Ying from Hong Kong Design Institute. She received a trophy and cash coupons worth HK$5,000; the People’s Choice Award goes to Miss Choi Yun Ying from Hong Kong Design Institute who received a trophy and cash coupons worth HK$3,000. Each of the finalists received a certificate and cash coupons worth HK$1,000. (Please refer to the attachment for the list of winners.)

One of the judges, Mr. Alan Chan, Director, Marketing & Supply Chain Management, FUJIFILM Business Innovation Hong Kong Limited, said, “It is encouraging to see such a high level of creativity, concept development and utilization of FUJIFILM Business Innovation’s exclusive colors from the competition entries this year. They have fully displayed a plethora of innovative ideas and designs that are mind-blowing and full of surprises! The aim of the competition is to unleash local young designers’ talent and creative powers by combining advanced printing technologies and Hong Kong’s iconic visual culture of neon signs. Promoting boundless and unlimited creativity, the competition also aims to support the sustainable development of the printing and design industries in Hong Kong. Prior to the competition, a workshop jointly organized by the professional teams of FUJIFILM Business Innovation Hong Kong Limited and the Hong Kong Design Institute was held with more than 100 students participating. Under the guidance of our instructors, students have grasped the basic printing and design knowledge and explored the functions of FUJIFILM Business Innovation's latest Revoria™ Press PC1120, a powerful six-color print engine (single-pass six-color toner xerography). The instructors also demonstrated the machine’s compatibility and ground-breaking technology which supports the perfect presentation of the designer’s ideas, as well as its versatile applications with different artworks and printing materials.”

Students from the Hong Kong Design Institute participated in the workshop on basic printing and design organized by FUJIFILM Business Innovation Hong Kong. They also explored the latest printing technology and its applications on different printing substrates.
