Fujifilm Unveils New SX Series Model: A Lens-Integrated Long-Range Camera

Featuring the brightest lens in the SX Series, enabling clear imaging even in low light conditions
Combines a 32x optical zoom (12.5mm to 400mm) with a compact, lightweight body, designed for portable use

TOKYO, September 3, 2025 – FUJIFILM Corporation announces the development of a new lens-integrated long-range camera model as part of its SX Series lineup. Designed to combine a 32x optical zoom with a compact and lightweight body, the new model is scheduled for release in early 2026.

The latest SX Series model supports a 1/1.8-inch effective image size*1, and features a broad focal length range from 12.5mm wide-angle to 400mm telephoto. Despite its advanced capabilities, it maintains a compact design with a length of approximately 300mm and a weight of 3.9kg. Equipped with the brightest F2.8 lens in the series, it delivers exceptional optical performance, capturing clear images even in low-light conditions. This new model is versatile enough to meet growing demand for use cases such as mobile installation on vehicles and ships, portable deployment for live events, construction sites, and temporary surveillance needs–alongside traditional fixed operations for monitoring borders, ports, and infrastructure.
Fujifilm will showcase the new SX Series model as a reference exhibit at the “DSEI UK,” a leading global defense and security exhibition held in London from September 9 to 12, 2025.

New SX Series model

Long-range cameras are widely used for surveillance of borders, forests, airports, ports, highways, and more. Their role in remote infrastructure inspections has grown due to labor shortages and aging facilities. Fujifilm first introduced the SX Series in 2019, combining its expertise in optical and image processing technologies. Current models include the FUJIFILM SX800, featuring a 40x zoom covering 20mm to 800mm, and the FUJIFILM SX1600, covering a range from 40mm to 1600mm. Renowned for their fast and precise autofocus and stabilization systems, the SX Series excels at capturing clear images of subjects even several kilometers away.

The newly developed model incorporates Fujifilm’s advanced optical technologies, refined through the design of 4K/8K broadcast lenses and cinema camera lenses. Its bright F2.8 lens enables clear, low-noise imaging even in dark environments. By integrating the camera and lens into a single compact unit, it achieves 32x optical zoom (12.5mm–400mm focal range) while maintaining a lightweight, portable design. This versatility makes it suitable for surveillance in locations where fixed installations are impractical, including disaster sites, crime scenes, and event venues.

Fujifilm remains committed to leveraging its proprietary optical and image processing advancements, including those used in the GFX and X series digital cameras, to develop innovative solutions that meet evolving customer and market demands.

Main features of the new SX series model
(1) Combines 32x optical zoom with a compact body (300mm in length, 3.9kg in weight)

The camera integrates its lens and body for optimized design, achieving a 12.5mm to 400mm focal range (horizontal FOV: 31.8°–1.0°) with 32x optical zoom–while maintaining a compact size of approximately 300mm and a weight of 3.9kg. This makes it ideal for mobile use on vehicles or ships, as well as for flexible deployment as portable surveillance and inspection systems.

(2) Equipped with the brightest F2.8 Lens in the SX Series for clear nighttime imaging

The newly developed F2.8 lens retains its brightness across focal lengths from 12.5mm to 200mm, thanks to Fujifilm’s proprietary optical design. This ensures clear, low-noise imaging even in dark environments.

(3) High-performance image stabilization system for advanced vibration control

Fujifilm’s proprietary stabilization system offers cooperative control of optical image stabilization (OIS) and electronic image stabilization (EIS) to reduce blurring caused by vibrations or wind when shooting at long distances. It detects and compensates for even subtle movements with precision, enabling steady footage.

(4) Fast and accurate autofocus capable of attaining focus on a subject in just 0.1 second

The new model in SX series features a rear-focus mechanism that drives lightweight lens groups for rapid focusing. By combining on-sensor phase-detection autofocus (AF) for speed and contrast AF for accuracy, it achieves focus as quickly as 0.1 second, ensuring subjects are captured instantly and sharply.

(5) Heat haze / fog reduction function for added clarity

The new SX Series model is equipped with advanced heat haze and fog reduction functionality. Fujifilm’s proprietary image processing technology reduces visual distortions caused by airborne particles, temperature differences, or haze, ensuring clear visibility. This system enables high-quality imaging even in foggy or hazy environments that would typically impair visibility.
